Clip pedals question

Is it possible to fix the pedal into a position where it is constantly facing the bottom the shoe when ever you unclip? I have a bit of difficulty getting my foot into the clip when I take it out at lights etc as the pedal turns 180 degrees when I unclip and then dont have enough power to take off again without wobbling around.

    Technique comes with time.

You could always try double sided clipless mountain bike pedals such as shimano 520s/540s. Much easier to get into.

I always just push my foot forward into the pedal (double sided SPDs) so end up rotating it a touch if it needs to be rotated by that action.

Something you could bear in mind is that if the engagement doesn't happen, first time, you could spin a revolution or two with your unengaged foot just sitting on the pedal. Not great for power, but it will let you get a bit of momentum until you get the cleat in.

However, I thought that with the Look style pedals, the back was weighted so that it would always be engagable. Are the pedals new and just need a bit of loosening up?

Any tips for clipping in on a hill?

get really good at it, same thing improve your technique to getting clipped in in about half a second after you clip out, then take it to a quiet piece of raod with a hill and use the strength of the foot that stays clipped in to push off and get some momentum..and keep it going, untill you get the foot clipped in.

I have a roundabout like that near me on the regular route and fly through it at 40+k/hr or so, its possible and works for me..beats stopping and clicking out on the hill - once you judge where the cars are coming onto it are, and your skilled enough, you can sail through it much safer than actually stopping, clicking in - try to get going with traffic up your arse and worry about traffic coming from the right onto the roundabout, around a half blind corner and smack right into you as you edge onto it and try to clip in and get going
