No Sky since Feb.

Imoved house last Feb. and telephoned Sky to tell them the new address. When I tried to plug in the Sky bow I found the last tennents had cut the wires at the wall. I phoned Sky again to tell them and asked them to send someone out to fix the problem. At the end of the month I got billed over €100 for installation but nobody ever came to my home to fix the problem. I phoned Sky again and asked when someone would be out to fix the problem as Ive had no channels for over a month.
I was told I never asked for a repair man and it would take about two weeks to get someone out. I was also told I would be billed for the service. I said I already had been and a argument started so I told them not to bother sending anyone as I would get NTL instead. Up to Feb the bill was cleared every month but Ive paid nothing since. This morning I got a letter from debt collectors giving me 10 days to pay over €500 or I would be taken to court. Can Sky do this?

Did you cancel sky before you changed to NTL? Did you just Ignore the bills every month?

I told Sky to cancel when they said they were going to bill me again for the repair man.

I did, I still have the bill that has the installation charge for the installation that never happened!

Go to a solicitor and explain everything and give him everything from Sky.

Then send Sky a legal letter.

Sky are pigs and this is the main reason I went for UPC.

By cancelling, 12 element means, did you formally cancel your subscription, by giving 30 days notice or just tell them you were cancelling and leave it at that?
you're tied to a minium 12 month contract with 30 days notice anyway.
If you didn't adhere to their terms and conditions and the debt has indeed been passed to a debt colection agency then you are fully liable for the debt and risk your credit rating being blackend.

Your best option is to discuss exactly what happened with a solicitor. They will advise you further, the fact you where charged without actually having a engineer sent out is crazy.

If I where you I'd actually open a thread in the consumer issue forum as this subject is more appropriated there - http://boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=580.

Can this thread be moved to the consumer issue forum please mod?

It was bad form for sky making the mistake, but it was a really bad idea to ignore all the bills!

I thought it was fraud for a company to bill for a service they did not provide. By claiming an installation charge when nobody did an installation and refusing to remove the installation charge do I not have cause for complaint?
