my sister is looking to unlock her mobile Nokia 5230 from three network .... three (Hutchinson 3G Network) want to charge her €60 for this and I want to know if they are obliged to give out the unlocking code or not.

She has phoned them as I've said - just want to know if they are obliged to give the unlocking code - their website says they charge €27 admin fee (if you have topped up by €130) ...doesnt say anything about if you have not topped up by €130.... I assume she has had the phone a while and has prob topped up more than €130 - three have said its more than €130 in a month.

She's emigrating and wants to use the phone over in Canada - at the moment it seems the only option is find an unlocking shop somewhere. (she's in Cork - but will be leaving the country through Dublin...so should have time to unlock)

    Cheers

Just go into an unlock shop and get it done that way, it will be around 30-40 euro

    Doublecheck that it is locked.

I had a three 5230 Navi and I spent an age yattering to India looking for it to be unlocked. It turned out that it was unlocked all the time.

    Hi

Sorry to bring this thread back up I know its a couple of weeks old, I was just wondering if anyone knew anywhere in Dublin that can unlock the 5230. All of the shops I go into want to keep it for a week.....Is there any reason why they'd need to keep it that long? When I ask they just start laughing

Firstly have you asked to get the code from your network?

my mate has the same phone and wanted his done and they wouldn't give it to him so I assumed that I'd be the same.
I suppose I should have checked that for myself first I'll give them a shout and see if they will give it to me.
If not I'll pop back on.

    Thanks for the reply Davy!:)

there is software called SL3 which cant be unlocked the usual way. i am in the process of having it done. the reason for the delay is the usual machines dont work. apparently someone comes over from spain with specialist equipment once a week and does a load of them. i am due to collect my (hopefully) unlocked phone tomorrow and will let you know how i get on.

why someone would laugh at you for asking a reasonable question is beyond me:confused: are you a funny guy? like joe pesci perhaps?

hi zed, well my phone wasnt done, cos the guy didnt show up. but they said it will be ready on monday which is fine by me. i will update you then.

if you wanna get it done you could drop it into ******************** in tallaght, where mine is, and just get it done for monday too. it costs 40 euro.

well obviously there is an autoblocking on the name of the shop. pm me for details.
