which network is best for roaming

Hi I'm starting a new job in Germany and as its only temporary i need to have a reasonable cost for calls and the like. I'm currently with three and find it quite expensive. A couple of the UK lads i work with are on Orange and O2. They have "bolt ons" to allow them to use there phones just like they were still at home.…

I generally text home and the uk. I also call back home and the uk a fair bit.
So sugestions please
