Sky+ box - wired through aerial connector?

First off, to all the experts among you, I'm a complete amadán when it comes to Sky boxes, wiring, connecting, etc, so if this query comes across as dumb, my heartfelt apologies.

    Right, here goes.

I moved into a rented house at the weekend. I have a Sky+ box, I have a Sky+ account and there is a Sky dish on the side of the house.

Now, I previously lived in a house in the same estate, and the way they're set up (by whoever installed the TV systems in the first place) the Sky wires come into the attic and are connected through the TV aerial sockets from there. So in my previous house, I just plugged the Sky+ box into the aerial socket and presto! it worked.

However, the same thing hasn't happened this time. The wiring seems to be fine in the attic, I've connected the Sky+ box to the wall socket and to the TV via a SCART lead.

But I'm getting error 29 (No satellite signal is being received...)

I believe it's a simple wiring issue and am willing to try everything else before getting a Sky engineer out to change a few wires and charge me a handsome fee for the privilege.

Hope someone can shine a light on it for me.

    All the best,

    k.

follow the wire from the dish all the way through and I bet you will find a 'second' wire near the aerial somewhere. That is what you connect to.

    Sponge Bob,

    Thanks for your response.

There are two wires coming from the satellite dish into the attic. At the moment they're wired into a box in the attic. Should I have my digibox in the attic to wire these into it, and then run a red eye down to the sitting room?

Apologies, I really am clueless when it comes to this stuff...

Have to see what the sat wires are wired into first, make and model of box in attic please...does it need power and is it actually powered right now ?? what are the outputs ?? could the signal go elsewhere ...not where you are plugged in for example.

Sorry, I wasn't very clear in my last post.

The wires aren't wired into a digibox in the attack, just connected to an aerial box, from where I assume they go to the various aerial ports on the wall in the various rooms.

There's no digibox in the attic, just my own Pace Sky+ box downstairs which is unable to find any Satellite signal.

Thanks for your help so far.

    k.

What does the 'aerial box' look like? How many inputs/outputs has it got? Does it say anything on it? Are you sure that the two wires from the satellite dish go into it?

Again, folks, many thanks for your interest and help.

In the office at the moment so I'll investigate later tonight and re-start the thread tomorrow morning.

    All the best,
