It's on tomorrow night (Friday 6th) from 7pm on BBC Three. Could be on elsewhere too I guess, but that's the only channel I know of so far. Usain Bolt will be competing at it.

I heard this advertised last week as being on BBC3??

Usain Bolt and Gay and Powell are supposed to face off and we are left
with it being shown on BB3, a station that many would not have.

If ever there was a soprting event that was worthy of coverage, this is it.

Bolt, the most charismatic and dominant athlete on earth is relegated to BBC3:rolleyes:

Maybe darts or some golf event is clashing with these "average" and "boring" athletes.

Edit: Powell withdraws with groin injury, BBC report.

I would think that most UK viewers receive BBC3 so should not be a problem. Perhaps not so for Irish viewers but that's a different issue.

I think credit is due to BBC for showing live coverage of every Diamond League event this year , from US to Europe to Asia, either on BBC3 or Red button, and the two UK-based DL events are covered on BBC2.

In fairness, Bolt will only be on-screen for a few minutes, and in action for less than 10 seconds, so not surprising that BBC decide to cover the entire event on one of its 'lesser' channels. There is probably not too much interest from general public in watching other track and particularly field events involving athletes they have never heard of. I don't think even Usain Bolt can currently displace 'Eastenders' from its BBC1 slot, but hopefully that will change! :D

I'm lucky enough that my cable TV package here in Dublin comes with BBC Three. However the Beeb have quite a good offering of sports available on their Red Button (I think you can access that in Ireland if you have Sky) and on their website. Unfortunately their website content is often blocked if you are outside the UK, however there are ways around it. I watch Formula 1 also but because I don't have the red button, I can't watch their post race forum on the TV so that leaves me with having to watch it online.

You can buy/rent a UK proxy quite cheaply and that will allow you to access all of the content on the website, live streaming, BBC iPlayer etc. That's what I do to access the Formula 1 content on their site and it usually works ok. Occasionally the live streaming can be flaky but I suspect the proxy is not the problem. That could just be wishful thinking on my part though.

I'm looking forward to that Diamond League meeting. To be honest, I don't know much about athletics but I've developed an interest in it over the past few weeks as I've been doing a little training of my own. I'm quite fond of the distance events like the 5000 and 10000 metres.

I'm guessing Bolt might appear twice. I think they have some sort of heat for the 100 metres and then the final later on in the night. Although I guess the heat might be during the day when the TV coverage isn't showing it.

Sky viewers have BBC 3 if you hit the services button and go to other channels. Some great races on. Looking forward to seeing how the Americans Rupp and Solinsky do in the 5k. Both have had great seasons and i really hope Rupp gets a good run. This guy has been inside American records twice this year only to have Lagat and Solinsky win the races in record times in 5k and 10k and he is still quite young in terms of distance running
