What part of the iPhone powers the screen ?

    Hey guys,
(There's a tl;dr at the bottom for those in a rush).

I dropped my iPhone, cracked the screen and LCD, replaced both, as well as the inner plastic bezel holding them together. Now, the LCD doesnt turn on and the touch screen will not respond. The backlight wont even turn on !

It is still on, responds when I plug it into USB, it still vibrates and has its files and will be picked up by iTunes, but the screen is black with no display, no backlight and as far as I can tell the touchscreen is not working.

And the kicker is that it was working for a few seconds, when I first put everything together, I just took it apart to get the home button to be seated properly, and bam, all of a sudden everything stops working.

Frustrating indeed ! Would anyone be able to help me out please ? I am sick that it seems I will have to buy another part, but, if it will fix it then it's worth it !

tl;dr :Replaced iPhone LCD, glass and central plastic piece. iPhone screen worked for a few minutes, then stopped. Now, screen will not work but phone will respond to USB and when I flick the switch to put it in silent. Can anyone help please ?

Thank you all very much !

If you cant help can anyone recommend somewhere I could send it to be fixed ?

It could be just that the connection came lose. Bring it back where you got the parts put in and ask them to check it out.

Yes it's likely that one of the ribbon connectors came loose (although it's pretty tight in there) The ribbon cables that are connected to the screen are located near the earpiece of the phone.

Unscrew the two philips screws at the bottom of the phone, then use a suction cup to pull up the screen from the dock end, leaving the earpiece end in place. Raise to an angle of about 45degrees and check the ribbon connectors.

BTW don't do this if you're not comfortable, it's not that difficult for someone who's used to dealing with small electronics, but it can be though if you're not sure what you're doing.

    Hi,

The ribbon connectors you're referring to would be the parts labelled 1,2 and 3 beneath the screen of the iPhone, yeah ?

I have actually already connected, disconnected and reconnected them several times, and no matter what I do, nothing seems to be displayed anymore. It's very worrying.

I'm grand at working with small electronic components, doing Computer Science in college so fairly used to it...very baffled by this problem though !

Thanks a lot for the help, guys !

My original theory was that the problem was with the #3 connector, connected to the motherboard (either the actual connector that is soldered to the motherboard, or the cable connected the LCD to this).

I've done some research and apparently the #3 connector is only a determinant for the sound you hear from the iPhone.

Now I am thorougholy confused !

The ONLY thing I can think of would be another replacement LCD ? Anyone have any better/other suggestions ?

As a matter of interest, if I took it into Apple, as a second-hand iPhone that I have taken apart and jailbroken many-a-time, what would they say ?

Just tried charging it for a few hours and no change. I'm clueless !

Does anyone know if taking apart your phone nullifies your entitlement to out of warranty replacement ?

Was thinking of bringing the phone into apple...apparently its to have it repaired altogether. I'm kind of sickened considering I've paid slightly less than that already, but if I could do it I would be delighted...
