Ive been following mma/UFC for around a year,

I have always wondered why in the closing 10 seconds of a fight do they take away the clock/timer. Is it so fighters dont stop until the bell etc

Also i noticed they always bang like a stick of something on the 10 sec mark, i assume to notify fighters that the round is nearly done. Seems a kinda strange way of doing it.

anybody shed some light on this, thanks

On the TV, they take away the clock for the last 10 seconds because it's not the official time. The official time is on the timekeeper's stop watch and i know first hand that at times the tv timer has been wrong

And the 10 second warning before the end of the round is a useful tool for the fighters (but i also think for the cage side staff, not that it was intended for that)

There is another another 10 second warning during the break as well, which is signaled by a whistle
