I want to do the right thing, and get the right type of dress. I have never attended a black tie wedding before - its easy for my other half, all he has to do is rent a tux!

The marrage cermony is at 1pm and is in a church - i think catholic - in one irish county and the reception is in a neighbouring county ... so I dont know the time of the meal but I would guess around 5?

    Advice much needed !!

You can't go wrong with a simple, slim fitting, full-lenght dress. I believe women are "allowed" to wear any lenght dress when the dress code is black tie but if you're buying something especially for it then I'd get a long dress- you'll definitely be dressed correctly.
