ok i havent got a clue. im looking at all these threads with abreviated words and its doing my head in. i used to think i new about stereo systems and the like but things have moved on so much anyway, basicallly just looking for a decent high fi system. i mostly listen to heavy metal so great sound would be the most important thing, also being able to hook it up to the tv i suppose. i could spend around 500. any recomendations?

    thanks

Hi Vanhalla,my best advice for You is to take a look at Rotels older pre+power amp.Or vintage JVC amps quite cheaply on ebay. Also for your music preferences B&W 603 or dm602 ,Paradigm Monito7v2 or Wharfedale8.4.
Best of luck in hunting! Sorry for my english its not my native language.

Im a huge music lover, and i dont know what to look for when im picking a stereo.

I mean a usb connector and mp3 dock is fantastic, but a good loud clear stereo, that when its loud no distortion.

What should i be lookin for because i dont understand the difference between 40 herz to 100 herz. or any general frequency.

I hope you can help me out, thanks.

Hey Vanhalla, have a look at the thread 'B+W speakers + Rotel separates'...it might be just what your looking for!
Failing that, if you want it loud, the first thing you'll want is a bit of power, but at that, don't be fooled, if you match a lower powered amp with appropriate speakers (similar power rateing), then you should be able to get that loud feeling.
Probably worth putting the bulk of the cash into a good amp to start and maybe go with a cheap pair of speakers and CD player....you can always upgrade one piece at a time.
Go have a listen to a few, sound is a subjective thing, what me or Joe Bloggs might like might not suit your ears.
    Good Luck!
    E.

What is Your music preferences ? If You want loud sound with low distorsion buy 8ohm speakers and some maranz vintage amp PM 7000 and up series sound fantastic with Mission speakers as about cd for this set I recommend Cambridge Audio Azur recent models starting from 650models quite nice sound and price.
Another recomendation is to buy arcam products alpha 6.7 or 8 series cd and amp good synergie with tannoy mercury they sound great but will be nice with Mordaunt Short Avant series or Dali Concept.
