i got accepted for general nursing and am meant to start in sept. problem is im in the middle of filling out garda vetting form and fourteen years ago i got 6 months probation for being with someone who broke into a holiday home and stole 50 quid. gardai told me at the time that i wouldnt have a conviction but yesterday i rang a guy i know who checked my file and this popped up that i got probation for larceny. i have to hand in my notice at work this week and im wondering if im doing the wrong thing now as my garda vetting form will come back with this on it. is it possible i could be refused entry on this does anyone know, the guard i spoke to said he didnt think it would matter but then again 14 years ago they told me i wouldnt have a conviction on file

Getting the probation act is not a conviction, though it is a court outcome & would be recorded as such.

Tick yes you do have one and explain it.

14 years ago is a long long time ago. Silly mistakes are made by people (its what makes us human). We all can forgive.

Explain to your future employers and im sure you'll be grand. If you lie and they find out you got the probation act they may view the lie worse than the offence.

I doubt it very much, but do mention it on the form.
