Masters in Mental Health

    I did my undergraduate thesis in mental health and thought this would be the perfect course to do, but the only issue is is that I need to be working in a mental health environment for at least year before applying. I can't even find a volunteer placement in the mental health sector, never mind a job. Can anybody help?

    Volunteer I suppose, email psychiatric hospitals and wards etc... Email the course director and explain your situation. I'd say with the way things are, College might not be as pedantic with this requirement.

    You say that you can't even find any voluntary placements... but have you really tried everywhere? Remember, mental health can cover a hugely broad range of jobs including psychiatric hospitals, schools for children with special needs, residential schemes, homeless services, addiction services, psychiatry for the elderly (e.g. dementia -> maybe even voluntary work in a home for the elderly may suffice). Working with community psychiatric nurses, social workers, OTs etc might also be useful.

    Unless you have a medical background you may find it difficult to find a placement in acute psychiatry but other areas should be relatively open.
