2k-3K to spend, dont like spending money on petrol and repairs. What car?

as above leaning towards a diesel but the bigger engine equals bigger tax so not sure with my 10000-15000 km's a year (with consistent city commutes) it would pay for itself

Would be looking for a descent sized 5-Door so no Ka's etc.

He said he doesn't like spending money on petrol or repairs.;)
Usually not so bad on repairs, but you won't often see the better side of 20 mpg.
Had two of them and whilst driving in them is like being whisked away in the arms of a well endowed Valkyrie, the world is a better place and you find yourself in a strange relaxed and happy mood when you arrive you will however be a good customer at the pumps.
Man I miss mine and even though I commute nearly an hour to work I'm beginning to think it'll almost be worth it...
The W123 is an addiction that you'll never quite get over and if you don't have one and you see one you will get restless and break out in a cold sweat while you attempt to locate the owner to give him all your money so he'll sell it to you.

Without spending a lot of money on petrol and repairs? I think not.

The ghia above is a steal by the look of it. A lot of car for the money (ghia kit list is great) and that example looks very tidy.

In my experience (2.5 years ownership) they are very reliable, somewhat fun to drive in the 1.6, fairly economical (mid 30s mpg city). Very easy to work on yourself (if you are so inclined). Parts are cheap - even from Ford. Parts, information and advice is plentiful.

They are the understated but familiar and trusted workhorse of the mid size second-hand car market. Probably exactly what you are looking for.

Very few common rail diesels will do big miles without dmf or injector issues
