I'm delighted with this. Miami will still be favourites but I just think that Shaq will make such a huge difference to the Celtics. I can see Rondo ripping teams apart now.:)
The Boston Celtics and Shaquille O’Neal agreed to terms on a two-year contract worth the veteran minimum $2.8 million, ESPN reported, citing people familiar with the situation.
O’Neal, 38, will enter his 19th National Basketball Association season and first with the defending Eastern Conference champion Celtics, who will be without starting center Kendrick Perkins to start the year. Perkins tore his anterior cruciate ligament in the sixth game of last year’s NBA finals and probably will be out until at least February.
O’Neal averaged 12 points and 6.7 rebounds with the Cleveland Cavaliers last year. He’s won four NBA titles, three with the Los Angeles Lakers and one with the Miami Heat

I miss the days when superstar athletes weren't ring chasers, but instead retired when they knew their time in the spotlight was over. I mean imagine if Larry Bird decided to play 5 minutes per game off the bench for the 93 Bulls.

Just doesn't sit well with me.

Shaq, you have four rings, you don't have to prove anything to anybody. Just retire.

Shaq is still a powerhouse in the right system. He has that with the Celtics. Jermaine O'Neal is there too so he won't have to do huge minutes but when he is on the floor it really helps out Rondo.

It doesn't bother me too much that he joined the Celtics looking for another ring, I would rather him at a decent team than some poor team, that would be a bit sad to watch maybe.
He does has something to offer, especially the Celtics now that Perkins will be out for a fairly long period.

The thing that kind of bothers me is that he was looking around for one more big pay day. I am glad he has joined the Celtics for less money than he was looking for but he probably would of went the other way if an offer came I think.

This will be interesting from a basketball standpoint. The Celtics have another player who can get his own shot...which is one of the main reasons that they lost Game 7...but also added one of the worst pick & roll defenders in the league to a team that plays the best pick and roll defense I've ever seen.popcorn.gif

He'll give a solid 20 minutes per game of rebounding, a big body in the middle and decent passing when the other starters are getting a rest. He's still got solid value but is so slow now that is very vulnerable to the pick and roll. He does give the Celtics options vs those teams like the Lakers who play with 2 7fters though, and another bunch of fouls against DHoward.

It's a good signing for the Celtics but the league is in serious danger of becoming very lop-sided if all of the marquee players are on a handful of teams. That said, as a Celtics fan, happy to see Shaq in Boston. It's a very nice luxury to have off the bench. Throw in a healthy "son of Kenny" Kendrick Perkins, the two O'Neals and Garnett and the Celtics front line suddenly says B-I-G; though not as quick or athletic as the Lakers. Whoever comes out of the East (Celtics, Heat, Magic and at a big stretch Chicago) though will have earned it as they'll have taken some punishment by the time they get to the Finals; while maybe aside from the Thunder I can see the Lakers have a fairly smooth route out of the West.

No matter what kind of regular season the Celtics have, no-one will want to face them come the playoffs - pretty much the same as last year then!

Great signing for the Celtics and a good move for Shaq - anyone who thinks otherwise is crazy. The big fella will be a long time retired, play til ya cant play no more I always say.

    Exactly.

And is that fifth ring really going to mean as much to him as the first 4?

Piggy-backing his way to a fifth just looks a bit desperate.
