My wife, a long time 3 customer, upgraded her phone on Thursday night last and got a 16GB iPhone 4.

It was delivered yesterday and so we got it all set up, email account up and running, facebook, all the usual suspects.

She went on to Planet 3 and discovered that she was 8 euro up with data charges. So her data to date isn't coming out of her 2GB that she signed up for.

Called up 3 to say her new plan that should come with the iPhone won't become active until August 12th!!!

What in the name of **** is going on. Has anyone else found that when they upgraded to iPhone 4 on Three that their new price plan wasn't active?

My OH was told the same. No explanation and she never thought of asking

So they send out a phone that you can't use for anything other than voice and text until the new plan kicks in. Makes no sense

My OH just ordered online as if she was a new customer then called today and got her old number ported onto the new SIM card and contract. Basically as if she is a new customer. Probably not the official way to do it but seems like she won't have to wait for a new billing period at least.

Don't know what they are up to this week. Last week before launch all my calls were going thru to Ireland, now this week everything is going thru India and they seem to be working off a different database oe something.

India have an old address for me which was different to my current address which was confirmed by the Irish call centre last week. I've been waiting to activate my new microSim card i got with my iPhone upgrade fro 24 h but not processed yet. Rang again today and was told by India that it hasn't been processed and the request had to be sent again, another 24 h wait!

Was also told that they have no idea that i have upgraded. No request to change my plan to the new iPhone plans so i'm baffled as to whats going on. The cost of my upgrade isn't showing anywhere!

My old bill date was the 8th of the month, so I discovered €11 of data charges last night. Rang Three, told them they hadn't informed me etc., and moaned until they removed the €11 from my account.

My OH then told me after my call that when she bought hers she was told that this would be the case, her bill date is the 7th. So I am the proud owner of a new iPhone with all data firmly switched off until the 8th :(

Luckily my bill date wasn't the 25th or something.

Correct me if I'm wrong but is this not the same with all operators. Any changes to price plans start on your next billing cycle. Pretty standard practise

Any time I have ever upgraded I was able to use my new plan there and then.

Can i ask what dept you were dealing with to get the €11 refunded?

I bought an upgrade on the 30th of July, my bill date is the 2nd of the month. For some reason my plan didn't update and they won't give the 2Gb data i signed up for until the 2nd of Sept. Argued with them and a manager at the call centre and he "transferred" me to the upgrade dept. I had to hang up after being 50 mins on hold. Anyone got the 1800 number from last week for the upgrade dept?

I was speaking to the customer options team who did the same.

I just dialled the usual 1913 number from my iPhone (this was just before 6pm in the evening).

I got a particularly decent Indian guy who after putting me on hold three times in total came back with the answer I had let him know that I wanted to hear.

If I was like yourself and was told to last another month (possibly due to the bank holiday?) I wouldn't be letting it slide at all. Just keep harassing them.

Edit: 1800 947 591 is the upgrade dept. (in Ireland so only open office hours).

Thanks for that. Somewhat sorted now. The guys in India are very decent but they are reading from a script they can't deviate from and the information they have seems to lag behind the irish centre.

Called the 1800 number and got chatting to a girl who got me somewhat sorted in about 5 mins. They were giving me a free 1Gb add-on for the month but she rang back 5 mins later to say when she added it it wasn't compatible. She said that they are going to allow me go over my units this month and won't be charged extra (made me promise not to take the p!ss out of it though!)
