Cardio to do while recovering from injury

    Hi all,
I'm pretty prone to injuries the past year or so which tends to mess up my training schedule, I'm getting back into the running now again and want to have some back up plans on what cardio to do if i'm recovering from an injury.
In the past if i've been injured i've used it as an excuse to not exercise, which leads to weight gain (well not losing any at the very least) which i suppose adds to further risk of injuries and affects the overall gain.
My own areas of interest are
    Ankle
    Calf
    Knee (IT band)
    Groin

I imagine swimming would be a good cardio to do for a lot of these, but i guess cycling would be one that won't aggrivate an ankle injury for example.
I have access to a gym and can use one of them crosstrainer/strider things, which i think won't affect groin.
Any ideas appreciated, i'd like to know what you all do when you're recovering from an injury to keep up the cardio..

PS: I'm off to try some chi running soon so I hope that'll knock the injury proneness outta me!
    Thanks all!
