Can anyone tell me where the toll is located on the M1? Im planning a trip up to Newry and back, and cant see it listed online where the toll booth is located precisely.

Obviously i will be planning a quick detour once I know where the booth is!

It's just after the city north hotel. If you take that exit you will avoid it, it's the first exit for drogheda heading north. Also on the way south it's also the first exit for drogheda just before the river boyne. Personally I would be paying the toll but each to their own.

thanks - looking at it on the map it seems a bit of a way out of the way to avoid. Is it a manned toll booth where I can pay in cash?

Yes, manned and you can pay cash

Me too, I'd just pay it realy

Yup manned. I think it's 1.90 each trip. I used to travel Dublin to newry twice daily and I 99% of the time paid it.

plus if you try avoid it all the entrances coming back onto the m1 after it have a toll booth so you got to pay there! and this is on most of the exits/entrances till just before newry! (from what i remember anyways! correct me if im wrong!)

    Straight through Drogheda?
Seems a lot of hassle for avoiding a toll.

Realy OP, you're on a trip and not a daily commute.
I think it's worth paying but that map and link is very useful if not

Naa not really, once you go north of the boyne your grand.

For 1.90 I'd avoid going through the centre of Drogheda.

Also if you want to miss it I would go north on the n2 till you reach the far side of collon then follow the signs for the m1. That's the way I sometimes did it. Depends on time of day of course.

You can leave the motorway at exit 7 as discussed already. This is the exit I take home every evening as I live nearby that exit.

However by the time you go through Drogheda and out the other side and re-enter the motorway after the Boyne bridge you will have easily used €1.90 in fuel. Complete waste of time in my opinion.

I travel North quite often and it is physically a longer journey for me to head back to junction 7 and go through the toll than to go straight on through Drogheda but it still knocks a good 10-15 mins off my journey time by using the toll.

    Thanks for the advice.

Think i'll just take the hit of 1.90 e/w to be honest. Its looking like it will cost more in time and fuel to avoid the tolls!
