I was going to try that once. I gave up on the idea as you milk the cows late Sunday morning after 10am and you have to milk them early Monday morning 6am. If you want to go away on Sunday half the day is gone when you finish milking. Even if you go later you have to be back early for Monday morning milking.

We use Automatic milkers, they follow the cows around the field :D

I remember reading that it has a negative affect on SCC and other tests but thats a good few years ago now... Didn't think anyone was doing it

Have tried it for a while a few years ago from sept on and u lose a bit of milk but they come back to what they were the next day. But you are still down a bit of milk and does no benefit for scc. I will not do it again as i reckon i might as well pay a guy to milk on the sunday as lose the same money by not milking them. When i tried it i couldn't get anyone to milk on a sunday but now thats not an issue

the idea of milking late on sunday is that you can have a late one the night before :D , from what i hear , those who practive 13 times a week milking , they milk as late as lunch time on sunday and then milk extra early the following morning , your bound to be out of pocket a little but certainly not enough to justify paying someone to milk sunday evening and it wont do the cows any harm either

when the cows are housed, the autumn and spring cows are in different feed groups, on Sundays or any day we are strapped for time the spring cows would only be milked once in the morning at the usual time.
still have to milk twice on a sunday, but it means less that half the time to milk in the evenings.
milking once on a sunday suits when u have some thing in particular to do, or just need a break but i would not do it to often, and probably not till november time anyhow

Come to think of it I did try it once. I was at a wedding on a Saturday in November 1998, I didn't bother going home to milk. Instead I milked at 1.30 am after going home there was frost the same night  I milked again at 4pm Sunday :)

    Hi Whelan,
I used to do it when still at dairying, the co-op copped it and used to do the sample for SCC on Monday mornings. That screwed up the SCC bonus!Only way round that was to lie in on Monday morning as well, cause our milk was collected early LOL.

I think now with a good price for milk you'd be better off to pay someone to milk on the sunday evening. As Meath are Leinster champions you should have no problem getting someone.:D:D

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.
