Not really a coup for him though. U20s usually a stepping stone for apprentice coachs rather than a man with his backgound. Was it a deliberate step down for him to be based in Ireland ? Or is it the price of getting back into the irish scene with his eyes on one of the provinces again, or King-in-Waiting should the Kidney regime contiue the downward trend?

Any of the above, perhaps. But also, maybe he enjoys coaching but doesn't at this point in time want the pressure / expectation that comes with an international position, or full-time big club job.

A way to see his kids!!

Buy the way someone told me there's a third Ruddock boy potentially even better than the first 2. Is this true?

    Welsh coach
    > Worcester coach
    > Irish U20s coach

Serious fall from grace there, but a great coup for the U20s.

A coach who was ridiculed by his own players at Wales saying that he wasn't the reason they won the GS. Managed to get a Worcester side that had great attacking potential in it's ranks relegated. And now expected to get our U20's going places. Im not so sure.

I think he has a fair bit of success with other teams in Wales (Dragons, U20 GSs, Wales A GS). The year Wales won the GS with him as coach, they really played some nice rugby (and Wales hadn't won anything for donkey years up to then). Wales weren't too hot at the last RWC either without him. I haven't seen a bad word said of him by a Wales fan yet and most castigate the players and think he was very badly treated by the WRU.

A post by a Worcester fan said that the players he had couldn't adopt to the style of play he wanted them to play. The poster also said he did a fantastic job at bringing young players through - which is fantastic news for us.

So you're saying he's not responsible for wales's grand slam, but he is responsible for Worcesters relegation? Hardly a fair analysis on him.

if he does a good job with the under 20's id like to see him involved with the senior team too, sure he'll be irish coach when kidney is selcetd to coach the lions in a few years.

he was responsible for the wales grand slam, their world cup was awful.

i wonder did they take the blame or their wc, players showed him no loyalty at all,

Ah, was he the guy that the squad called "the bus"? (because he was no coach).

As a side note the Welsh team got they're good mates Scott Johnson and Gareth Jenkins appointed after Ruddock and were absolute rubbish untill Gatland took over.

The core of the 05 Grandslam team played through till the 08 winning team so their arguement that the players coached themselves to winning the 05 GS is laughable as they were unable to win babck to back games untill another decent no nonsense coach took over.
