Legal requirements for retaining pupil's records (2nd level)?

Does anyone know what the legal requirements are regarding the retention of pupils' school records? I think it might be 6/7 years from when the child turns 18, or if an event occurs concerning a pupil who is older than that, 6/7 years from the event. Records would include things like grades, teacher reports, special needs assessments, psychological reports, Garda/HSE files, letters from parents etc). Some could potentially be required should a court case be filed years down the line (not the case here, just trying to reduce the amount of paperwork in storage!).

I've contacted the Dept of Ed & Science but no reply yet (they're probably on holidays...).
