Guys, I need some advice in relation to my springer. He has got very sloppy upto and including F.U in relation to the recall. Prior to this week he was flying.

I have him out and he just wants to do his own thing...he is coming up to 2 year old and I guess he is having a teenage moment. All advise will be welcomed, this lad.

I am away from my computer for the next few hours dont think Im being rude by not answering.

I having the same issue with my own at the moment. She will come back but i have to let a shout as she wont return to my whislte. What i will say is during the summer there is that many smell's that its not that she cant hear me she is just that engrossed in hunting that she just not listening. During the winter she was spot on little whistle and she would be back....

Its like a kid on a computer you call there name 3-4 times before they actually pay attention to you because there concentrating that hard on the game.
When the weather cools off and there's not half as smells in the air she might be slighly easier.

People prop wont agree but thats what im putting mine down to..

Copy and pasted from a previous post!

TBH it shouldnt matter if the ground has more scents than a perfume shop, the dog sould come back, what if they see a rabbit or a running pheasant? are you going to say ah its only because they were running that he/she gave chase.

take the dog to some quiet football pitches. go through the hup/stay process, then do the recall increasin g the distance. then do the dummy out to either side, send the dog for it and hup before they get to the dummy and do the recall. do this once or twice a day for a few days. (vary it up of course). when the dog gets the message that hup is hup and come in is come in then move to an area where there are some scents.

putting the effort in with a bit of revision now will pay divedends come november, and lets face it you would rather be training in summer and hunting in winter. ;)

then keep her out of the dicthes for a little while, use some long grass meadows or something where you can see the dog and have a premptive strike with the whistle, then move back to the rough and the ditches. just my thoughts. ;)

    Thanks for the comments...

My lad is out of the ditches and hunting the field, my brother is of the opinion that there could be hares about and thats what is sending him crazy. Anyway i'm going back to basics tonite and see does he behaves around the house after that it maybe time for a check chord. Its frustrating because up till this week he was flying

remember if your not in a position to enforce the command when he disobeys don't give it. make sure you can chase him down or whatever you use to let him know he cannot disobey when you give the command. if he gets away with it once he will do it again
