Right I just signed up with upc got 15mb broadband.

its not bad have too say.

Now I heard rumors that they are upgrading the broadband in september.

    Now Here is my Question.....

When the free upgrade comes i'll be put up too 20mb.

say I want too save money and stay at 15mb which i'm happy with.

Would I this be a good idea too Downgrade too 5mb and then be upgraded too 15mb for free in September. and then I would only have too pay 22euro for 15mb.

Confusing I know but do I have it right ?

Unless its changed upc side, the upgrades due this month, plus there is a downgrade fee of 10 euro to switch to the 5 meg package, plus the 40 gig cap on the line

my advice just stay where you are at 15 and get the upgrade when it comes

upto to yourself really tbh, but seems a lot of hassle to get an upgrade when your going to be upgraded for free anyways to 20-25 meg

I'd stay where you are at the moment anyway, when the upgrades come you can always downgrade if you think its worth it, it will still cost you €10 whether you do it now or later. At least then you will be able to see what the new packages are like and decide if they are worth it, I really don't see any advantage to downgrading early except the money you will save on the 5Mb package.

As for the upgrades, UPC usually seem to use them as an opportunity to sign people up to new 12 month contracts, so you will have to agree to a new 12 month contract to get your upgrade in any case.

No, you won't. Once new speeds are available you need to request the upgrade, and your contract is extended.

You're happy to pay for what you have now, so stick with that. The next upgrade could be months away yet.

Where are you getting these figures from?

    UPC currently have 5MB, 15MB, and 30MB.

Why would the 5MB jump up 10 to 15MB, while the 15MB jumps only 5 to 20MB?

Also, seeing as the 5MB is UPC's lowest package, and designed for basic users, I highly doubt that it'd go to 15MB.
It makes absoloutly no sense for your basic service to be close to 5 times higher than your biggest rivals average speeds, for less money.

UPC are bringing out a new package, and people are assuming that UPC are gonna upgrade some existing packages, which they probably will seeing as they seem to be working a policy of 2 upgrades a year at the moment, but I've seen nothing detailing the speeds, as you suggest.

think most people are assuming that UPC ireland are going to follow the same upgrade strategy as here

I was thinking the same myself Shinzon, but when you look at all the different UPC's around Europe, there's very little patern.

    Slovakia

    Austria

    Czech Republic.

    Hungary

    Poland

    Switzerland

    Germany

    Belgium

    Romania

They're all on varying versions of the same kinda package, with the exception of us and Romania who haven't been upgraded to the DOCSIS 3.0 yet.
No real patern though, so I can't see us being a clone of the NL.
