i thought it was pretty damn good, a bit slow, but it was only the first episode. Kinda Like Abyss meets 20,000 Leagues under the sea.

That unknown sub is either an alien vessel or Captain Nemo :)

I'll watch it soon, for those who think i'm all "tween", think again.

I thought it was pretty damn awful!

I was really looking forward to it - it had a damn fine cast in Driver, Nesbitt and Visnjic.

But the whole thing just felt so muddled - suffered from some truly awful writing and had some hilariously stereotypical characters (
2 members of crew having an illicit affair.. check! Member of crew with a troubled past and / or dead spouse.. check! A suspicious newcomer to the crew with possible homocidal tendencies.. check!
    ).

I'll watch next week and hope it improves, but the first episode didn't do it for me at all! :(

Were you not the same person who said recently that you wouldn't and haven't watched any British drama in years? And you've felt obliged to watch this and 'Sherlock' - turning over a new leaf, are you?

^yup...but i'm also open to new shows, i wasn't lying when i said i haven't watched UK/IRL tv in years. I don't "watch" tv, in the conventional sense....i stream shows to my tv :-)

I watched this and thought it was reminiscent of a really bad Dr Who episode. The acting was horrific, despite the cast. The writing is shocking and is compounded by the bad acting. I can't really comment on the story since we still don't know what it is.

I may watch the other episodes to see if it picks up, but I won't be sorry if I miss it. It does have potential, but from the snippet of the next episode that they gave at the end, I kind of doubt it'll get any better. As Basquille says, it's got sterotypical characters and it looks like more are coming.

It has Orla Brady in it. Enuff said.

I watched the first ep. not great but not awful either. I think i needed to watch this in 720p as standard def was rather murky, especially the underwater scenes. It has a solid cast but as stated very generic characters.....that scene where Ryder shouts to yer man about having an affair and telling his wife was pure cringe.

The CGI while not great isin't too bad, as best can be expected from BBC Digital...or whatever in-house CGI thing they have.

I'll watch the next one, but it screams Capt. Nemo to me.

I finally got around to watching this today and I'm quite impressed. It reminds me of a better done Defying Gravity.

I'll give you that for sure.. standard def was like watching through dirty dishwater. I watch almost everything in 720p now though anyway, but this show definitely needed it.

I watched it in "neutral" so to speak. Hilarious casting of Mini Driver looking every inch not a submersible pilot, blatent quota filling across the casting - Irishman, black guy, East European type, American-friendly lead actress, etc etc. The CGI was very up and down mainly down as the episode unfolded, the 'baddie' was a obvious as bald patch is becoming mainly cos he usually plays that type (and he was a white English male). I'll tune in again as the identity of the craft above them is intriguing.

Bugger!...i thought it was on tonight: http://www.heraldscotland.com/arts-ents/film-tv-reviews/the-deep-bbc-one-tuesdays-1.1047073

^ LOL!...that article gives the show a serious lash!

Ze russians its always ze russians!/its the UN its always the UN

Apart from the mildly excruciating romantic interlude between our US network friendly leads (the Orpheus couldn't surface quickly enough!) it was enjoyable hokum

couple of quibbles i have is what powered the Lurch to lower it down if there was no power?
when they needed to get the geiger counter to them why didn't they just leave it in the airlock for them to get themselves as i presume there is one otherwise the "radiation" would have flooded the whole ship?
why does a state of the art Russian super sub look like a 50 year old Skoda factory?

That thought did occure to me as well but logic is not a strong point of The Deep.

It's really starting to bother me that Raymond won't just tell them WTF he is doing down there - he obviously knows what is going on and is just being a broody little "c u next tuesday"

Overall though, I thought the second episode was quite good... I'm still intrigued to see where this show is going.

I thought the second ep. was better then the first, but very scattergun...kinda all over the place. I'll stick with it for now, but the acting is pretty bad...Nesbit is clearly dialing it in and in it for the paycheck.

Only 5 episodes total, so not a huge time investment anyway... I'm quite interested to see where this is going.

I find it ploddingly boring, the story just doesn't grab me so far, unless it's building up to some interesting climax, the characters are boring as well.

Clems death as typcially stoic, er hang on. No it wasn't typical at all, he should have been balling his eyes out

I'm not happy. Secretly hoping that he isn't actually
    dead
    .

Thought it was a pretty good episode other than that.

Bump! last one tonight. Will the corrupt UN/Russians/Meninblack/big business win the day or shall a plucky band of mis-cast actors hold sway?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,473 ✭✭✭✭Our man in Havana

Paddy Power would not take that bet Mike.

Will the story complete or be open ended?

Bull**** on the Clem situation. Really not happy now.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2 unacastle

Absolutely no explanation as to how Clem ended up on the Russian sub after last week appearing to drown in the submersible????
How did 'cowardly' Vincent suddenly know how to blow up Russian Sub????
Do we assume Svetlana never made it??

Rather like watching "Lost" - left with more questions than answers.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 21,634 ✭✭✭✭Richard Dower

Very poor finale, plotholes galore....one scene we see Svetlana standing in the docking bay of the sub....no sign of the mini sub, the Russian ship blows up....but yet we see a bit later Svetlana inside the minisub dying????????

how'd that come about?...EVEN if she got out a nuclear detination would have killed her and vaporised the sub, those minisubs move very slowly...no way she'd get out of range!

It made no sense at all, very poor and badly written finale.
