A remake of a movie from 1973 produced by Guillermo del Toro and directed by Troy Nixey.

The first trailer is out here.

It's hard to form an opinion of the it from that trailer alone but I think it could be good. Just knowing del Toro is involved makes me excited. :p

Damn. The beginning is as freaky as 'eck, especially when you are sitting in the dark. Hm - it looks.. interesting? I haven't seen the original, but it looks like the Borrowers meets Freddie Kruger?

Quick question though: should we have a stickie where people can post/complain about movies that are being remade, since this is a regular occurrence lately?

The few times I've seen this title I end up thinking "Holy **** they're bringing it back!"

Cue the crushing disappointment every time :P

As for the film, can never judge a horror movie from the trailer. Could be good I guess, if it gets that sinister sensation of actually being in the dark right! Monsters look a bit over CGIed.

Would love to see Del Toro directing again rather than producing though. Hopefully with the Hobbit on hiatus he'll be back soon!

A mate of mine wrote a (now abandoned) draft of the script a while ago. I think Del Toro wrote the first draft and then abandoned it. It went through a few writer's who made simple changes but kept the story pretty basic in horror film terms. Del Toro came back on, so hopefully he did something to jazz up the story. The cast isn't bad at all, but I've no idea if the director is any good.

I think this looks like a bit of fun. Is definitely one to be seen in the cinema.
