    hi all,

Seem to have a little problem with a Dell Inspiron 1525.
It will not power up on mains or battery.
no lights whatsoever on the front panel.
    Tried a couple of chargers.
When I plug charger into laptop the little green light on charger seems to turn off immediately as if somethings getting tripped.
Unplug it and stick it in another laptop and its fine, move it back to the broken laptop and light turns off again..

(I know there is a similar thread already here but wanted to ask specifically about the charger light)

    Any ideas? :)

I had same problem with Dell XPS M1730. One with small capacitor just behind the power plug on motherboard was burnt.

Ok - thought I would start with the powerboard:

    http://cgi.ebay.ie/Dell-Inspiron-1525-1526-DC-Jack-Power-USB-Board-00831-/270624964010?pt=UK_Computing_LaptopAccess_RL

Seeing that this was cheaper than a new motherboard and is the part is directly connected to the charger.

I connected it to the mobo and connected up the fan (in the hope that I would see some life)

However as soon as I plug in the charger - same thing happens, light goes off on charger. I dont evern have to press power button on laptop.

Do no choice now really but to replace mobo?
They are around €200 so hate having to replace something so expensive without getting a guarantee it will fix the problem.

Also - at that price its nearly worth just getting a new laptop :(

I'd probably take the screen of your hands anyways if it's a Samsung LTN154X3-L0D, my Inspiron 1521 had an accident :(

I'm trying to fix my sister's laptop at the moment... sounds like the same issue, but without the power light on the cable switching off...
From what she told me, she tripped over the power cable and soon after, she noticed the battery has stopped charging (usual "plugged in, not charging" message) but it still worked with the power cable. Then one day it decided to stop turning on altogether. At the moment, when i plug the cable in, the only light i have is the one on the power cable.

So I tried replacing the power board (one one with the adapter connection & 2 usb's)... just did it yesterday and put it back together and still nothing...
I'm kinda left wondering if i put it back together properly, but i'm also kinda lost on where to go from here... I was wondering if it could just be the battery, but shouldn't all dells turn on even without a battery if the power cord is plugged in??

If i knew how to test if it was definitely the motherboard i'd be fine... it's the uncertainty that such a pain!!

I dont think theres any way to test motherboard for sure - other than sticking in a new one and seeing if it works :)
Im in the same boat really - Mobos are expensive and I would be better off getting a new laptop than getting a new mobo.

I came across this while researching this issue:
