    Hi everyone,

I really wasn't sure what board to post this on so if this is wrong mods feel free to move.
I really want to get into ABA Tutoring but I am finding it difficult to find any concrete info regarding this online.

Does anybody here have any info or advice perhaps?

    Thanks.

You should contact the schools directly (like Saplings, Stepping Stones etc). They train tutors in-school. It's very intensive - you'll be shadowing an experienced tutor for a good few weeks before you're let off on your own, and then you'll be shadowed closely until they're confident you can cope. You don't devise the programs yourself - the resources are formulated for you and a supervisor tracks you and the child's progress closely. You have to commit to at least 6 months as it is costly to train tutors and disruptive to the children to change too often. It's exhausting but rewarding.

OT, but I think it's a real shame that they're bringing ABA tutors under the same category as SNA. SNAs are not allowed do anything for the educational needs of the child, whereas ABA tutors do. I hope that as part of bringing ABA tutors into the SNA fold there's going to be a major review of the whole SNA role. It is a completely underused (and underpaid) resource in my experience.

Thanks so much for that speedy reply! Great info Im going to get on to it now, when you talk about being trained for 6 months, is that voluntary or is there payment involved?

You should be paid, unless times have changed and they've introduced an unpaid training period. It's not a lot, usually minimum wage, but it is excellent experience, especially if you have a interest in teaching, have family with special needs, or just as a job in it's own rights.

Thanks for your reply :) I have one more question, how much (as an average perhaps) does an ABA tutor get paid hourly when they get going properly?
