Thinking of doing an ABA course

    Hi guys,

I'm a qualified primary teacher with 3 years mainstream experience and I'm thinking of a slight change in career direction.

I'm interested in applying for an ABA course but I don't come from a psychology background although I did have some modules for teacher training.

Could I be accepted with my experience/qualifications?

Also are the courses hard to get into?

    Thanks all :)

I'm not going to be able to be very helpful here but I'll try. My friend is doing the MSc in ABA in NUI Galway at the moment. He said that people came from all kinds of different backgrounds. I don't know if any of them were teachers, but I do know that he was a psychology graduate with no ABA experience prior to starting the course. Others had years of experience working with children with special needs. http://www.nuigalway.ie/psy/mscaba.html

Would you consider doing this course as you're a teacher

I'd imagine it'd look good on your application form as it's accredited for CPD by the Psychological Society of Ireland. If you do the course now you'll get a discount for being a teacher and you'll get 3 EPV days! I'm doing it as I'm also a teacher and I'm hoping it'll be useful for me in the future. A lot of the ICEPE courses are useful if you want to get into that area and there are courses on Autism and Aspergers also.
