    Hi,
My music likes inlcude (scrolling through ipod)
arcade fire, interpol, smiths, J&MChain, aphex twin, pixies, cassius, daft punk, ramones, deus, the fall, the field, hot chip, lemonheads, nirvana, the national etc.
Does anyone have recommendations for a alt/indie/dance playlist for running/jogging/gym?

(updated thread- doesn't have to be just alt/indie music. Anything really, as long as it's not crap/boybands/mindless radio music

    Cheers,
    Pa.

Any of the Kitsune Maison compilations imo - great stuff.

I would recommend either Tour de France or Minimum/Maximum (the live album) by Kraftwerk. The beats on these albums will fit perfectly with rythmic exercise and the music is amazing. Tour de France was written by cycling enthusiasts to sound like cycling (listen to it, it sounds like cycling!) so it's well suited to running /walking too. If you like Daft Punk I reckon you'll like Kraftwerk too.

Does 45:33 actually help keep you focused? I find myself getting bored during runs and my mind wanders when listening to music, i try to stay focused by listening to talk radio instead.

If 45:33 does the trick I might try it out.

    Thanks.
There's 7 Nike Original Run Series in total; didn't know about them. Will check some of them out.

    From Wikipedia-
James Murphy later admitted that this was entirely a lie on his part, and that he does not actually jog. He stated that he wanted to make a long-form record like E2-E4 by Manuel Göttsching and used the opportunity provided by Nike to do it

Feel good hit of the summer- for sure.
I never really got into QOTSA to be honest.
Can you recommend some of their other songs (I have 3 of their albums) and I'll fast track to them?

Songs for the deaf is still my favourite qotsa album. Favourite somgs on it are probably "no one knows" and "Go with the flow".

The A-Trak - Running Man Nike mix is excellent too.

And Girl Talks last 2 albums if you like a good mash up of hip-hop/rock/pop and lots more.

Wouldn't really consider these alt/indie though.

Or shame on you for listening to it sitting on your couch with a beer instead of going out jogging?

Ditto above...two bands to look out for on the compilations, Late of the Pier and Midnight Juggernauts. Not as avant garde as Aphex Twin but have enough going on in their music to keep you interested and enough toe tappers to keep you in a decent stride whilst running.

The Cars. Only joking. Television, Marquee Moon is my sprint track.

Check out Rated R, that album is great. Lots of great songs on that one

You've got Aphex Twin on there, do you have drukqs? There are some animal running tracks on that one. 54 Cymru Beats, Vorhobsn, Taking Control, Mount St. Michael and St. Michael's Mount... Richard D. James Album, I Care Because You Do, Come To Daddy EP... Aphex Twin made tons of great running tracks!

I listen to Aphex Twin, Autechre, Squarepusher, guys like that a lot when I'm running. If I'm in a guitarey mood, I'll go for heavier stuff that I'm not usually into - Misfits, Rammstein, Pantera...

When i was running i found UNKLE to be FANTASTIC to focus on. Dont know why, but i put it down to there being so much going in some parts, and there being LOADS of texture to the music.

As far a vocals goes, new singer for each track (more or less), cant complain! Have a gander. Best album for me would be warstories.

    burn my shadows
    restless
    Keys to the kingdom

It's actually very hard to narrow it down when adding.
I've been going through my itunes and am adding too much....
    Cassius
    daft punk
    clap your hands say yeah
    dan deacon
    David Holmes
    dEUS
    Empire of the SUn
    Etienne de crecy
    fatboy slim
    the filed
I've only gotten to F so far...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,472 ✭✭✭AdMMM

Ideally you'd want to beat match which is why I suggested mixes earlier because the DJ/Producer has already done it for you. You'll find yourself running at a much more consistent pace which is pretty damn important if you're running on a treadmill.

a lot of U2 songs are great for running, such as Vertigo, Beautiful Day, Pride, Elevation and Sunday Bloody Sunday. They really get you in the mood. As well as this, song 2 by Blur, Hindu Times by Oasis, Shout and Everybody Wants To Rule The World by Tears For Fears are real good songs for running

I'm nearly afraid to suggest something lest it be deemed not alternative enough, but i've got to, because i understand the terminal boredom of running without good music :)

My taste definitely leans towards indie, so when i need motivation for running, i tend to just go with some of the faster, catchier tunes from bands i already listen to from indie stuff but also that i can't believe it's not MGMT cateogry of catchy poppy electro. I tend to make playlists with a bit of both. Here's my current playlist, maybe not for everyone!

    a little from column A

Ida Maria - Oh my god
    Hurts - better than love
    Dead Conferderate - The Rat
The Strokes esp. Is This it
    Maximo Park - our velocity
The Clash - Police & thieves
    Braun Reynolds - Natural Gambler
Libertines - cant stand me now
The Little Ones All of Sing Song
    White Rabbits - percussion gun
    New York Dolls - Trash
    Miike Snow - animal
    Fratellis - dont shoot me!
    The answering machine - lightbulbs
    Islands - rough gem
    Moloko - time is now
Janelle Monae - tightrope so catchy!
    Mr Little Jeans - Angel
    The High Fives - Duracell
The Drums - lets go surfing
Dr Alban - Sing Hallelujah [not sure this is indie, but it's a cracker!]
    Guillemots - trains to brazil
Patrick Wolf - THe magic position
Phoenix: more United and It's never been like that albums. Esp United it's quite dancey, and you could listen to the whole thing right through
HOT Chip - mentioned by OP - don't you listen to them when you're runnin?
    Amadou et Mariam
    The Who
    Vampire Weekend
    The Flaws
Dan Deacon - as mentioned above

    A little from column B
    Alphabeat - fascination
so empire of the sun - as mentioned above
    Matt & Kim - daylight
    Ladyhawke - anything
    Harlem Shakes - strictly game
    hockey - too fake
Temper Trap - Sweet disposition obviously
    Wolf Gang - Nightflying
US Royalty - keep it cool
Bears Repeating - Go Kid Go
Yes Giantess - Tuff n stuff
Official Secrets Act - So tomorrow
Cymbals eat Guitars - and the hazy sea

    and a new personal favourite

I'm new to the forum, so advanced sorry if it's not alt/indie enough :D

    E.L.O - Mr. Blue Sky
    The Cranberries - Zombie, Linger
    Audioslave - Be Yourself
Chris Rea - Road to Hell
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Heads will Roll
