I'll leave this here for now, but I think your query might be more suited to the DIY forum.

I would say he's in the right place. I think he's talking about systems where an insulating skin is applied to the outside of a house. These can be several inches thick, require a specialist to apply and are certainly not DIY. I can't offer much advice but I know that there can be issues with door and window openings etc. Also, there is not much point in going to this expense unless you first sort out the attic insulation. More info needed from the OP.

    Hi S,
I would recommend getting a BER on your house and then ask the assesor to apply the prospective external dry lining to the house and see what happens to the rating.. Would give you an idea what it might be worth to you. Cost of the assessment shouldn't be too much, 100 - 200 euro maybe, worth it to be sure before spending a few thousand on the insulation.

Other lower hanging fruit to consider might be:

    1. Install attic Insulation (30mm)
    2. Hot water Cylinder insulation (if changing your cylinder to a factory insulated version you might consider a dual coil cylinder to allow a solar system to be installed in the future)
    3. Upgrade your central heating boiler to a condensing type if you haven't done so already.
    4. Draught proof, include any chimneys when not in use.
    5. If the budget allows upgrade windows to double glazing (incl door windows too)

One of my friend's parent did it to their house over the last few weeks. As said previously it is quite think, a few inches. Cost was around 4k, but there are grants to offset some of it. Not a DIY job either. I haven't seen it yet though.
