Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on secondhand or cheap furniture places around. Looking at beds in particular, but also interested in sofas. Have been out to the place in patrickswell, dutch furniture, amazing stuff but no beds at the moment. Any other places similar to this around? Within 40mins of the city anyway.

    Hi,
There is a recently opened second hand furniture shop in Newcastle West called Second time around, or something similar. It's down near the footbridge over the river, where Owen O'Neill furniture used to be.

Have you tried www.jumbletown.ie? It's for people who are getting rid of secondhand furniture. It's all free and environmentally sound.

thanks, have been on that. Its a great site, but would prefer more of a shop experience, being able to see and feel a few different things before deciding. Have been to a load of places in the last week, but a lot out of price range, some things to consider but want to make sure we are not missing out on some better deals before handing over our money. :)

Shop opened on Parnell Street about 2 months ago where the Polish bakery used to be (next to Sky). Haven't been in there myself but i pass it every day and it does second hand furniture and it takes second hand furniture too.

There is a secondhand furniture store on Johns street in limerick city, called "JJ's Secondhand Store". JJ sells just about anything and everything, but he seems to have quite a bit of old furniture in store.

We've always found Shannon Furniture across from CBS Secondary School very good - Lots of choice and don't be afraid to haggle!

Will have a look at the place on parnell st. Thanks. :) oh and for the thread lurkers, dromkeen furniture have had the best deals so far for new, and oaklands for best quailty for the price, and the secondhand place in patrickswel just for the variety, lovely writing tables, cabinets etc.

Heres a couple of tips that might help you!
Try the sister site of boards.ie...........adverts.ie !
You can find lots of new and secondhand bed frames there.Secondhand bed frames are ok but I wouldnt personally sleep on a used mattress if i could get a good new mattress at the same price though !
Used mattresses often carry a huge weight of mites and dead skin cells (many kilos)
There are lots of bargains to be had at the moment everywhere, so check lots of different sources for the best deal!
Also dont forget that you may need to travel a distance, so see if your supplier or the person you are buying from can deliver the item for you.
If you are buying from a merchant as opposed to a private sale, check to see if the item is guaranteed!
Best of luck with the search, I hope you get what you want....:)

Hi, just to let anyone know that we found a good deal on a 6ft wooden sleigh type bed in Arramount, it was a discontinued and display model so got it for a good price, left us more to spend on a good mattress which was our aim.

Still looking at Sofas though, some nice deals out in Patrickswell for suites, older styles and some worn but if you dont mind the wear theyre great. Got a great old solid wardrobe there, will be keeping an eye on their stock. :)

On our hunt we have also found stuff(shelving and chests) in the SVP shop and on adverts.ie

    Thanks everyone. :)
