I need to purchase a tractor as my current one is a sick piece that keeps breaking down and costing a fortune to repair...
I ve narrowed my search down to a Kubota M108S ,Ive been told that they are very reliable. I cant find a list of prices for tractors in Ireland so I could do a bit of comparing. Also would it be cheaper to import from say Holland or will I have to pay some sort of VRT ?

No vrt on tractors as far as I'm aware. Not sure on the importing from holland option, cost of transport could be a major factor. Best way to get a price is to contact a dealer.

Second-hand Kubota tractors would be scarce enough in this country, your best bet would probably be to contact Murphy Machinery in Kilkenny, they import them. As for importing a tractor direct from the continent, I wouldn't recommend it if you can buy here. As well as the cost of transport which has already been mentioned, you won't have any dealer warranty on an imported machine. You'll also have to invest in a new pick-up hitch as continental tractors have a completely different sysyem for coupling to trailers.

everyone to their own on that topic but there is still a big saving to be made going up north.

you are buying as seen but in general, you would be hoping that a fairly fresh tractor shouldn giv too much trouble if any in the first year (allowing for one year guarentee with local dealer).

rough estimate is about about 20% saving - what are other thoughts on this

If there is a dealership here, then yes you will.

Anyone know why tractors are so expensive in France, is it government tax or something.

This is a good site to compare tractor prices across Europe

you can get 0% finance on kubota if you buy new..its a great deal, the 108 is very new model anyway so you might find it hard to pick one up second hand id say

I didnt know that, I was thinking of buying it out-right as I didn't think the banks were lending (or if they are there probably lending you back your own money at some ludicrous rate!).
What I did want to is get some type of a price list of new tractors without having to contact all the dealers for each price and have them doing sales pitches on me!!

hard to get the right price without talking to them im afraid, as far as i can see any type of publications never seem to have correct pricing for machinery in this country and the journal usually leave out pricing altogether when reviewing machinery:rolleyes:

Thats because there is a culture of haggling here in this country when it comes to farming. Drives me mad....rang a guy one day, who had an old mower for sale. He wouldnt tell me over the phone what he wanted for it.......wanted me to go call and see it first.
I think that Kubota may be selling on the cheap side as they want to get farmers using them. Japanese companies tend to do this, they're more interested in longterm market share, than shorterm profit.
