Hyundai i30 opinions?

I'm looking to get some opinions on this car lads.

I'm thinking of downgrading in the next 6 months or so. I currently drive a 2001 BMW 320ci with loads of extras (full sports leather, climate control, OBC, parking sensors, cruise control etc.) and while I love the car I hate it in equal measure. It costs me a a lot to run, petrol, insurance is 130 month, tax of €800 a year and servicing is very expensive.

I have been looking at going back to a good hatchback and I keep coming back to the Hyundai i30. Any opinions on this car? Everywhere seems to give it rave reviews. I'd be looking at the 115bhp 1.6 diesel engine model. It comes in classic, deluxe and premium models. There doesn't seem to be any premium models from 2008 on sale at all in Ireland.

The deluxe looks nice though, climate control, half leather, electric folding mirrors etc. and I hear it handles well.

I feel like I've been spoiled by the BMW though and I've been eyeing the premium models from the UK to compensate. Their premium cars come with full leather seats (with lumbar support I believe), ESP, parking sensors and cruise control (very handy I find!).

Any opinions on this? Any other similar cars I should look at?

Very average car thats really very expensive to buy now considering the offers that are out there at the moment from other , better manufacturers . Renault , Toyota , Peugeot , Ford etc etc all have a better product for less money. Shop around OP ;)

I've seen all those and none of them really interest me like this car. It's either the i30, a good spec VW golf, or a good spec A3 (all more expensive). Was looking at the Kia ceed aswell.

As Patsy said, it's a cracking little car. However I'm inclined to agree with Ed. You'll find other cars just as good as (if not better than) the i30 for less money.

Megane with the extended warranty to match the i30's can't really be sniffed at for the price. And I'd imagine both would be worth pretty much the same in say 5 years anyway so the Hyundai would wind up costing you more...

Decent cars though and that diesel is a cracker

So you're spending what, €15,000 in order to save a few bob per year? You might get €6,000 for the beemer, be sure you do your sums correctly, as often keeping what you have might not be as comparitively expensive as you think.

I was thinking that. Tbh I doubt I'd even get 6k for it, I'd say 3 or 4k if I'm lucky. I've had it 3 years and just want a change, so it would make sense to get something a bit more economical for long term. I wouldn't want to spend more than 10-11k cash plus trade in.

I might do a few test drives and see.

10-11k cash will get you a hell of a lot of fuel, insurance, tax, servicing etc.....

The diesel in the i30 is a savage yoke, nothing at all average about it. Wouldn't fancy one getting out of an E36 coupe though to be honest.

    E46 coupe you mean!
How many miles are on your 320 OP?

Don't think you'll find a 115hp model too handy. AFAIK classic wasn't available in 115hp and premium only existed on the price list.

Priced one from the UK and they seem to command quite a premium over its KIA
    Ceed cousin.
