Question about the Finale

Hello, I am new to all this and not looking to troll, I have a question about the finale.

What exactly was the danger in have Locke leave the Island? As he was shot by Kate in the back during his escape?

Various characters stated that he would bring hell to earth or something to that effect but he was just an old man now no danger to anyone really, or is there something I am missing?

If this was answered in another thread please link and close this one.

    Thanks

At that stage Locke was just a mortal man, but the danger was that they had to replace the "plug". The problem was that once the plug was replaced, Locke would presumably become the smoke monster again and leave the island with that power, so they had to kill him before they could replace the plug.

MIB himself wasn't a threat to the rest of the world. The real threat was the possible destruction of the island which was acting as a cork on what Jacob believed was hell. MIB didn't understand or care about this though, he just wanted off. However, when Jacob threw him into the source, MIB became an extension of the island's power, which meant that the only way he was ever getting off was if the island was destroyed. Of course, the destruction of the island would have unleashed whatever it was keeping corked, which would have caused the end of the world, so MIB wouldn't have lived long. But since he didn't believe in the island, he didn't think anything would happen if it sank to the bottom of the ocean.

When Desmond removed the giant cork down in the cave he basically unplugged the island's power causing it to be become uncorked and start to sink. This meant that the island became just an island and MIB became just a man. He was now now free from the island and could leave, but he was also now vulnerable, but only while the island was unplugged. This is why Jack had to kill him before replugging the island.

    That was my interpretation anyway.

I never understood how UnLocke was a mortal man at that point as by that stage there were then two dead bodies of Locke on the island. If he lost his ability to be invulnerable then surely he should have lost his ability to use Locke's body as a vessel.

He wasn't using Locke's body as a vessel, he was using a copy of his body, which prior to the death of Jacob, he could change to become a copy of any dead body on the island.

Just something i was thinking about in bed last night..........Did we ever find out, for sure, what Jacob meant by "They're coming" at the end of Season 5??? Was this ever answered in the final series, or was it left as another loose end??

It was assumed that he was talking about Jack and the other 77ers.

Fair enough the show has some loose ends but to call this one of them is a bit extreme really... it doesn't matter who he was talking about really, just to get a bit of debate going for the hiatus

one of the most mysterious characthers in the show makes a statement with his dying breathe, i think its pretty significant!

Well now, in fairness, he said that at just about the same time that a group of some of the most important characters in the story had travelled through time and ended up in the "present". Does it really require any more of an explanation as to who "they" were? Do people really need everything spelled out in single syllable words all the time?

Yes significant after the season 5 finale, not so after the season 6 premiere.

This is definitely not a loose end.

Well it could really be any 3 of these:

    1. Sawyer, Jack & Co. from 1977 Dharmaville returning to the present.

    2. Ilanas crew with the real Locke's dead body.

    3. Whidmores crew in the sub with a captures Desmond.

I'd go more with 3 myself as in the Season 6 episode 'The Lighthouse' didnt Jacob say that someone was coming to the island, which presumably he meant Whidmore & Des.

Or 4th option, all of the above. All of them got there at that time because of Jacob (either directly asking them to come, or by manipulating them). One thing that is for sure though, it is not a loose end. It's not a case of him saying "they're here" and nobody showed up and it was forgotten about. He said it, and at about that time, three separate groups showed up.
