PS3 Recovery Mode

    Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong here ......

    I'm trying to put my ps3 into recovery mode , everything is grand , I get to the screen where it says

    "plug the controller into a usb cable and press the PS button"

    my problem is as soon as I plug the cable into the controller its starts flashing as if its on charge and nothing happens when I press the PS button :confused:

    anybody know what I might be doing wrong ?
