No Signal DVB-S

I am planning to remove sky+ and have purchased a DVB-S (Videomate s350) card to test on my PC. The card installed fine and mediacentre picks it up no problem. At the moment I have taken one feed out of the sky box and plugged it into the card, the other feed is still in sky box.

This leaves me with two issues.

    1. Can not get any signal on 10773H frequency. (BBC2, 3..etc). I can get every other channel that I need.
    2. If I turn off the sky box I get no signal at all on the dvb card.

Has any body got any ideas on how to correct this?

No experience myself of this, but I have read elsewhere that you need to connect an internal power supply cable from your PC motherboard to the TV Tuner card to power the LNB on the Sat dish. Have a read of your installation manual

Thanks for the reply, the manual has been read many times, the only power supply options for this card are if you want to switch on the PC via the card (optional). There is voltage from the card going to the LNB. So I don't know what the issue is.

I am going to get a second card and try both feeds to the PC to see if it makes any difference. Thanks anyway.

Some cards require a 4pin molex connector or a 4 pin floppy connector to power the LNB. From the sounds of it your card is not powering the LNB so it either requires a power connector or it is faulty. Try switching the pci slot see if that helps.

Without the LNB being powered it's hard to say but the missing channels could be down to interference from wireless devices affecting the TV card.

For example my Philips wireless dect phone affects two tuner cards I've have, it also affected my sky box but on different channels, the solution is to power of the phone at the mains and rescan.

Thanks for the info. I'll look into the power requirements, but upto now haven't been able to find any reference to it for this card. It may be a faulty card:mad: in that case.

As for the signal, I don't have any dect phones around, but do have a wifi network, would this have the same effect? I'll turn it off to test anyhow. But if it is interfering then I do have problems.....can't do without the wifi.

Connect the card directly to the dish / LNB, no Sky box in between.

Some DVB-S tuners have less sensitivity than others. You might have to tweak your dish to get a fuller signal.

What software are you using? Are you sure you have the correct tuning parameters for that frequency?

A single frequency missing doesn't sound like a faulty card. If it was faulty in any way you would not be getting the other frequencies.

    Hi All,

Thanks for the replies. Got it working now. I put a second S350 into the PC and everything worked fine, for both cards. Not sure why. Originally I had one cable directly to the PC and one to the sky box, in this case PC only worked when sky was on.

Anyhow all is good now. Only need to sort out EPG etc and SKY is gone for good. Thanks.
