Crazy Monkey Defense

    Hi there,
I am involved with the Crazy Monkey Defence program. It is a program that has been up and running for about 4 years. It is a mix of stand up (muay thai and boxing), clinch and ground work - very much from a self defence perspective. It's creator is Rodney King, a guy from South Africa, who is a black belt in BJJ under Rigan Machado .

I am not looking for any money for doing this program. I am very passionate about martial arts and in making good progress. I am looking for people of similar mindsets as training partners.

I have a lot of respect for guys who teach MMA in the South East. There are some really good schools.

I am not looking to train MMA for competition. If this is your priority then I would recommend looking into other MMA schools as they are in the best position to guide you on this path. Of course, MMA schools don't just train for competition and will give you a good grounding in martial arts skills too.

I am looking for someone who may have tried out MMA at an MMA club and for whatever reason it didn't work out for them. Also, if someone was interested in starting martial arts this approach might be worth a look.

I have decided to take this approach and am looking for people who want to learn martial arts in a small group in a non competitive environment.

Crazy Monkey is a curriculum - it teaches you a step by step approach to the stand up game - getting into the clinch - and ground fighting . For more information check out the website.
    http://crazymonkeydefense.com/cmd

You can find out lots of more information there. Have a look at the DVD clips (the first chapter of each DVD is free to view) – and it will give you a great idea of what is being taught and what the program is about.)

I am living in the South East of Ireland. I am training to be a trainer in Crazy Monkey Defence.

Crazy Monkey is dedicated to giving you:
    · The ability to defend yourself against a determined attacker.
    · Superior fitness and extreme conditioning.
    · Mental agility and strength.
    · The knowledge that you can rise to any challenge.

    CM offers:
    · Functional martial arts skills that work
    · Effective Martial Arts Training for the everyday person
    · A friendly, supportive environment.
    · The freedom to ask questions and discover what works for you.
    · Real world self-defence skills.
    · The opportunity to achieve your goals whether they are based in self defence, fitness, or the challenge that martial arts brings.

    What we are looking for
    · People of all ages and backgrounds who are interested in developing well rounded martial arts skills (Stand up, clinch and ground)
    · People who are training to improve their own skills in a fun, enjoyable and non-competitive environment

I would like to find people who would be interested in training CMD in the South East of Ireland.
I don’t mind working with individuals (as a training partner) or setting up a small training group. (3 or 4 people)

If you think you might be interested and would like more information just message me here or private message me and I will get back to you.

    Regards,
    Crazymonkey1

We brought Rodney over for a few seminars in Limerick about 4 years ago, he had a lot of good material. Most of his basic principles for standup I'm still trying to work on for my own game.

Ger Healy in the combat sports centre in Limerick has done a fair bit of training with him and was involved with him for a good while, you could try getting in contact with him.

No offence mate and the best of luck with getting this going, but I think if your going to advertise as something like - Crazy Monkey Defence Martial Arts Trianing for the everyday person, then most people would think it was a wind up or something. Maybe something like Street Combat Defence or whatever might be better to get people intially interested, then you could explain the particuliars of Crazy Monkey Defence. Just my two cents.

Crazy Monkey is the name that the creator, Rodney King, came up with, the OP has no say in the matter

Fair enough, I'm only giving my two cents. I actually did a little aspect of what was called Crazy Monkey defence in a BJJ club. It was when you had a fellow in your guard and he was trying to gound and pound you. It was quite good in the situation, no doubt about it.

    Classic example of spam.

    CrazyMonkey: From the charter:
Creating an account to simply advertise your club whether it be genuine or not, will result in your thread being deleted and you treated as a spammer - Banned for either a number of weeks or permenantly. Boards.ie is not a directory. It is known however that members who contribute to the forum in a constructive manner may advertise their events and their clubs if such a martial art is being sought by a poster.

Ok, the OP has made it clear by PM that he's just looking for training partners for this. No money is going to change hands so I'm going to leave this thread run....

(thanks for the clarifying PM crazymonkey)

    Hi guys,

It's good to hear that people have had good experiences with the Crazy Monkey System. Thanks for that. After all, it is a blend of muay thai, boxing, wrestling and jiu jitsu which I think are really good for self defense.

Thanks to the moderators for reinstating the post. Apologies for any confusion caused - I am not looking to set up a club or charge any money. Just lookin to get in contact with people who enjoy martial arts training, or want to start out training martial arts and want to improve thier own skills.

Best of luck with it. I've heard good things about this concept of CMD.
You don't need a background in anything to start something new, so keep it up :)

    Hey crosstrainer1,

I agree with you. As I said already it's predominantly a mix of boxing, muay thai , wrestling and jiu jitsu. I think these martial arts are really effective for self defense. It's all about the fundamentals of each of these - no flashy stuff - just the stuff that has been used again and again and found to work. I think that's what makes the fundamentals so effective - this isn't meant to be new stuff with cool flashy moves - it is as you say "the old stuff" - but the reason the old stuff has withstood the test of time is because it works. From the sounds of it I think we probably agree on this point.

    new name same old stuff

this is your post from another thead.
yes, how can you comment on something you know nothing about. eg a guy eats at a restaurant and orders a lasagna on seeing the food he says the the lasagna is not cook the way they do it i italy. the chef comes out and says to the guy, how long have you been making lasagna he says i have never made it but i have seen an italian cook makes it. so the chef says you have never experience the cooking method behind the making of a lasagna so how can you say that im right or wrong

    no need to say anymore!!
