[Warning Graphic Photos] Hen troubles

The phone beeped at me yesterday morning. A farmer I shoot for had lost a few hens and could we come around and take a look. Niall and I arranged to meet halfway there and then went on to the farm in my car. We spent a while tooling around the place seeing a lot of nothing much. Then Niall spotted a very foxy pair of eyes well downhill from us, he had a look through the scope and confirmed our suspicions, it was indeed Charles. As soon as he was settled down with the rifle the fox went on the move, going from a lovely cropped grass hillock into long mountain grass. After a while of me wondering when exactly he was going to shoot this fox a rather loud boom filled the valley and down went Nialls fox. We never ranged it as the fox was close enough that it wasn't an issue with 40 grain rounds.

The next bit of action we saw came quickly enough after that fox as we were walking near the base of a hill, out of the moon light, again, Niall spotted a fox, except out on a flat this time. I would guesstimate the range to be 100-120 yards or somewhere similar in that range, close enough again not to be an issue. The cross hairs went on his shoulder, a gentle squeeze and down he went. As I walked on to pick him up Niall shouted fox to your right, I looked and saw a hare... I said that's no fox it's a hare, tennis game ensued with me saying I'm off to pick up the fox I shot!

Ten minutes of looking and I found SFA. Niall came down and another five minutes I started doubting my self until Niall sidled up beside me real close with a badly hidden smile "Jez Chief I think ya missed him". I stood back seeing the fox half hidden behind him and said something I can't repeat here...

    P1020338.jpg

A while later eagle eyed Niall spies a third fox. This time I ranged him at 197 yards. I stuck on the caller and he started running in like a thing possessed. He stopped about 140 yards out and I knocked him over. Three for three.

    P1020339.jpg

We saw two more foxes before we got back to the car, one quite far off the far side of a river. And another that headed for the hills at a fair pace.

Went busting clays at 353 yards today in the wind with Niall and a friend of his, the .223 proved more consistent than the TRG ! Great fun, next craic is to make up a drop chart for the .223.

Oh yes, she's singing now, I've been shooting sub half inch groups (once I had my bipod back :D). But, I've only 10 rounds left after yesterdays clay session so no more groups until I can restock

John I use biggameinfo for my drop charts and they work well when the correct info is input.

    VMax 40gr Ballistic Coefficient = 0.200 with a MV = 3800fps
