Silent AV/Firewall combo & non admin users

Apologies if this is not in the right area. I read the sticky and I'm still not sure.

I've set a few family PC's up with non admin accounts to stop them messing with it. But I've noticed a lot of the free AV/Firewall combos don't work that well with users who are not admin. They increasingly pop up ads or request for updates and when the user clicks on them they get an error. I usually use AVG/ZA

How do ye get around this? I'm wondering if the default MS Essentials and XP/W7 firewall is the way around this

Surprisingly windows defender and the recent windows firewall are good substitutes unlike their past record. If you look up statistics on how well their success rate on detection of previously detected and new malicious content, it's quite high compared to free alternatives. If you just need things to work, I'd just stick to those.

Programs that need admin rights, you can right click and run as admin.

I'll try admin rights. I'm not entirely sure what app is running when these ads pop up. ZA/AVG. What about the XP SP3 firewall?
