gum graft recovery...is this normal?

Had a gum graft last wednesday and up until this morning there had been no bleeding or oozing of anything so I thought that i was well on the way to recovery.
however i woke up this morning and looked in the mirror and i was covered in blood. a huge blood clot was hanging from the donor site and there was blood in my mouth and on my face. it had obviously been bleeding during the night and came out of my mouth onto my face. i spat the clot out and the donor site continued to bleed for next half hour.
i kept a tissue on the donor area and pressed down on it with my thumb to stop the bleeding. it eventually stopped and i took painkillers and slept for 5 hours.
but now it is really sore. worse than it's ever been. not sure if it'll clot up again or bleed again or what. has anyone any experience of this?? it gave me an awful shock and i'm just wondering is this normal??

Donor sites in the palate can take some time to heal. You did well to put pressure on it and stop the bleeding.

Get in touch with the dentist involved, i am sure you will be due a review soon anyway
