It sometimes (often even) happens that while you're replying to a post, someone else replies and you see it when you hit send. If you reply to this, you end up double-posting and that's messy and frowned upon.

As a workaround, I quote my own second post, copy the contents, save it, edit the first one, paste, save and edit/delete the second post.

Is there any way an option could be added to do this in one step (for normal users)?

    that's messy and frowned upon.

Only if a large amount of time has passed and the poster is aware of all the previous posts. Even then it's nitpicking. If a mod really feels that strongly about users posting different consecutive posts, they can merge them themselves.

The cost in time and effort required to implement this feature far exceeds the benefit obtained, so I can't see us doing it any time in the foreseeable future.

Rich Text Editor. To edit a paragraph's style, hit tab to get to the paragraph menu. From there you will be able to pick one style. Nothing defaults to paragraph. An inline formatting menu will show up when you select text. Hit tab to get into that menu. Some elements, such as rich link embeds, images, loading indicators, and error messages may get inserted into the editor. You may navigate to these using the arrow keys inside of the editor and delete them with the delete or backspace key.
