How do I Overcome My Guilt?

    Hi guys,

I was in a bad relationship about 4 months ago. She was quite a bad person for me. I say this because she basically took advantage of me while I was having issues going on in my life. I developed anxiety issues.
She dumped me out of the blue, by text, for a random guy, and it crushed me. I sent her a HORRIBLE text message back a few hours later.

Basically, I feel guilty over sending her that text. Yes she wasn't so nice to me,but I hear she is in a long-term relationship now, and I am questioning why I couldn't have been long-term with her (although I guess my anxiety issues would play a part)

How do I get over my guilt? I want to say sorry...but I don't know if there are underlying issues, such as getting back in touch....HELP

    Thanks

OK. So you feel bad about sending one mean text in the heat of the moment, but what she did to you and how she treated you is MUCH WORSE.

Just take on board the fact that you owe her absolutely NOTHING.

Just move on with your life, and don't let her dominate it even after the relationship has fallen apart.

Screw her. She dumped you, you got mad, life goes on. Forget about it.

How long ago is it since this happened.. You say that she is now in a long term relationship which makes me think that it happened quite a while ago... I think you should probably just leave the situation alone, sometimes if you go tinkering with these things you can just make them worse...

The only way to get over guilt for such a thing is to forgive yourself.

The only person you let down by acting in such a way is yourself. Ok, she treated you rather badly and you lashed out. Some people will think you are justified in that and have nothing to be guilty about. They may even be right. It is however beside the point and I will not go into it one way or the other.

However you let yourself down. You acted in a way that intensely left yourself disappointed in yourself. The only person therefore who can help you with that is you yourself.

We all have strong fits of emotion in our lives that make us act out of character. No one is born knowing how to deal with extremes of emotion. You have to experience them and then you do learn and this is one of those times for you.

You have seen what one extreme of emotion can make you do and you know how to recognise and control that better in the future.

Let it go, learn from it, and promise not to let yourself down again in the future. Learn to recognise the signs of when you think you are about to lose control, and learn to put the SMS down, or walk away and relax, or whatever it takes to control it, think it out, and respond better the next time.
