    Hi all

My Alfa 156 seems to have some electrical fault. It starts all of a sudden, the trip computeur tells me "front left door open" all the time and the indoors light won't go off.

When I indicate left it will start flashing like mad, christmas tree like (the trip computeur)

Does anyone have a tip to reset this?

or should I take it to an auto electrical? is it a big job which will cost me an absolute fortune?

    Many thanks

Sounds like your door lock is on its way out, or the sensor which is built in it is anyway, probably time to get a new one.

oh great thanks ... forgot to mention that it wont lock anymore but dont know if its due to the fact that it "thinks" one door is open.

If it was the case of a door lock, do you know how much that will cost me to replace ?

    Thanks

Please ignore the above post, its a moneymaking racket which all the mechanics claim....

I'd say its just dirt and grime causing the problem.

On some modern cars there is a microswitch built into the door mechanism its self to detect whether or not its closed or not (instead of the usual plunger switch in older cars). As previously mentioned in this thread possibly using WD40 might be enough to sort the problem. However due to wear and tear the microswitch might not be toggled on or off properly leading to your problem.

Some vehicle manufactures recommend that you replace the entire door module but it is possible to dis-assemble the door module and replace the duff microswitch with another one (obviously you will have the solder this on to the PCB). Other problems arise from dry solder on the contacts that breaks(due to contant closing and opening the door).

    Falabo,

Where are you based? I am in Dublin and have fiatecuscan and cable. Could connect it up and see what fault codes are registering and see if they can be reset. Drop me a pm if you want.

Also, they guys over on alfaowner are great and might be a solution there.

It sounds more like a faulty switch and bad earth connection...
Alfa & Fiat are well know for this kind of faults...
