do you need a license to own an airgun?
and if you buy one from someone would he ask to see a license?

Moving to the Airsoft forum from Help Desk - the Help Desk is for people who are having trouble using the site or who have an issue with a moderation decision. I've changed the thread title to be a bit more descriptive as well.

edit: I guess Airsoft Questions is probably a better destination so I've slotted it there:)

    Simple ansewer.

Less then 1 joule (328 fps with a .2gram BB), no. You do not need a licence.

Greater then 1 joule, then it's stopped being considered an airsoft gun and considered a firearm, in which case yes, you need a licence

if you looking for an airgun you will need to ask over in the shooting forum http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=466 i do believe you would need a license for one

if your looking for an airsoft device, then no you do not need a license, the device just needs to be under a joule to comply with irish law

you can not get a licence for an airsoft device over a joule

You need a licence to own an airgun but no licence is requied to own an airsoft gun, they are two different things, the former a firearm the latter a RIF (Realistic Imitation Firearm) which doesn't need to be licenced.

Edit: Super late with my answer :P

you do not need a licence for an airsoft replica firearm however if it fires over the one joule limit which is 328 feet per second for a .2 gram 6mm bb or ball bullet. if the airsoft gun fires over this magic number then it is illegal to posses so says the law as you cannot own a replica firearm in this country especially one that looks like an ak47 or m4 machine gun. only rifles such as .22 or shotguns are licenced in this country pistols and automatic rifles are illegal.
