Around 200 visitors to Dublin Zoo were forced indoors this morning after an Ape and its baby escaped.

The Siamang Gibbon called Sasak, which was carrying her baby Gizmo, swung off the island on which they are kept and onto the main complex.

A spokesperson for Dublin Zoo said strict escape procedures were followed.

All visitors were asked to stay in the restaurant while the Sasak and Gizmo were contained.

In a statement Dublin Zoo said: 'At no time were the gibbons out of sight of zookeepers and the pair never left the perimeter of the zoo.

'The gibbons were never further than five metres from their habitat. The pair returned of their own accord within 30 minutes.

'The animals were never in any danger and of no threat to anyone else. They are both back in their habitat in the zoo unharmed and everything has returned to normal.'

Seriously, I think it's time Dublin Zoo revamped their enclosures what with the penguin robbery a couple of months ago and now gibbons escaping from their enclosure...

With so many people visiting the zoo today it was a gibbon that something like this would happen. I bet the half-arséd security don't give a monkeys though.

    Sigh.

    Thread title is pretty confusing.

I was thinking, why would they have a baby in a zoo enclosure.

It's a gibbon; if something is caged it's going to try and escape.

The ape looked a bit nervous swinging about there. I'd say he was quite a prehensile.

Professional monkeys would have dressed in a human suit.

Yeah, people would've assumed they were taxi drivers.

I blame the media. All this talk of it being a renters market, maybe they were off to see if they could get better digs than what they were in.

Don't blame them. That shoebox Billy was trying to rent out in the Property Recession thread was bigger than what the Gibbons get in the Zoo.
