About a month ago my doctor diagnosed me with piles (hemorrhoids) I have been using gel and suppositories but they still haven't done anything. I'm on high fiber diet and have been doing good in sticking to it, anyway I'm now considering getting surgery because I cant do anything at the minute. I'm afraid to meet other gay men because of my embarrassing condition, I cant go to the gym because if I lift heavy it will make the piles worse. I'm sometimes afraid to stay out with my friends for long periods of time, because sometimes I can fart and the smell gets horribly bad. I'm just wondering if anyone else has gotten surgery for hemorrhoids before and was it worth it. I want to be able to get back to my original lifestyle as soon as possible. I'm having the worst summer ever.

You need to go back to the doctor. If the cream and suppositories that he prescribed to you are not working then you need to try something else.

    Have they shrunk at all?

Are you talking about surgery to remove the "tags" that are left once they shrink?

I honestly think your best bet is to go back to your gp and talk to him about any/all options available to you.
