    Hi,
Firstly, i just want to say that i am the most untechnical minded person on the planet so appologies in advance if i sound a bit all over the place!:o

Anyway, i'm a college student and have noticed a few students using ''chip'' things that they put into the computer tower in the library.

From what i gather, they appear to be using them to save their work in order that they can then transfer the work onto their own computer/labtop.

I was glancing through a catologue and saw these things. They were called USB adaptors and i was wondering if these were the same things i saw the students using in the library??

I really could do with getting my hands on one of these so i would really appreciate if anyone could give me any advice on what type i should buy.

    Thanks! :)

Image two is the storage memory stick.

Thanks for your reply. So, whats the difference between the two? I take it that its actually the storage memory stick i'm looking for then?

the 1st one allows you plug a device into a computer that doesn't have the right type of port for it (eg too small a connection)

the 2nd one stores data (like notes, projects etc) and plugs into almost every computer.

and yes, it's the 2nd one you've been seeing around college.

USB flash drive is Wikipedia's preferred term but they're also known as USB thumbdrives, USB sticks and USB pen drives.

sorry, I don't mean to hijack this thread, but on the subject of usb adapters, I am trying to get a USB wireless adapter for my broadband connection with UPC.

The problem is I am trying to connect a Mac with OS 3.9. Does anyone USB adapters are compatible with that OS and what shops in Dublin sell them?

    thanks!

With Macs you need to have the very latest versions of Mac OSX I'd say at least Tiger or Snow Leopard to have any joy in finding a wifi adaptor. I don't really know though, best off asking here and starting a new thread!

Thanks for the response Nick. I have asked the same question on the Mac forum. One of the guys I spoke to in PC World said that some of their USB adapters may be compatible with 10.3.9, but annoyingly none of the products have system requirements on the packaging!

PC World salesmen are bad enough telling porkies so if all they can stretch to is that it may work, I'd be heading for the door.

If it doesn't say Mac 10.x.y on the box, don't touch it.

Thanks for letting me know about PC World. I never shop there.

The guys from Elara have told me that this one will work:

Has anyone ever ordered stuff from them?

    thanks again

+1 for elara though I do my own research so never relied on them (or anyone else) for technical advice but what they sell is 100% kosher.

Bear in mind that you can collect from elara and save on p&p but they're in Park West so don't even attempt it on a Friday or any day after 3 p.m.

Hi, I'll probably just order it from them online. My daughter used to go to the creche in park west and the traffic was always a nightmare!
