    Hi All,

This may have been a question asked before, if so please feel free to point me at historical threads :)

Back in 2006 I left Ireland and went to work in Australia. I worked up until September in the year, but it's after occurring to me recently that I stupidely never claimed any tax back. Is it too late now to get tax back for that year? Or if I can claim it back how do I go about it? Do I need a P60, or are there just forms I can fill out and apply for a rebate? Any P60 I might have been given/posted back in 2006 is probably long gone by now so if I do need one can I request another?

    Thanks in advance!

Not too late yet; you can still claim back 2006 tax, but only until the end of this year.

If you left in September you would have been tax resident in Ireland that year. However if you were not resident the following year (eg. in Australia), then you qualify for split-year relief. This means that you would be entitled to your full year's tax credits / standard rate band, against your 8/9 months income, and should have a refund of tax due to you.

Easiest way to proceed would be to call the PAYE helpline for your local region, and explain your circumstances to them as you did in your post above. They should have your P45 details on record already (you shouldn't have a P60 for 2006 if you had finished working here in September), and they may be able to just issue you with a balancing statement (and a Giro!) for 2006 that would sort you out...

Thanks for that! I'll give them a call once I've somewhat unearthed my PPSN. I have a tax cert lying around someplace at home (I live in the UK at present) so have my parents ransacking my old room as we speak :pac:

Thanks again for the help! Very informative indeed :)
