    Hi,
I passed my theory test last thursday and i was just wondering what happens next. I know i have to fill out a form or something to apply for the provisional but where do i get this form.
The receptionist at the theory test centre mentioned something about the motor tax office but i'm not sure if thats right??
Any advice would be really appreciated.
Would like to start driving as soon as i can!! :D

Yes she is right, your local motor tax office will have the relevant forms. Good luck with the driving.

You can get the form at the motor tax office.

When applying for your Learner Permit, you need the following

    Completed form
    €15 fee
2 Identical Passport photos, signed on the back
Eyesight report, filled out by an optician or doctor (just go into an optician and ask for an eyesight test for driving - it's a common request and they should have the form in there)
Certificate of Passing the Theory Test
Form of ID (Passport, Birth Cert)

I think that's all you need - if you go into the motor tax office, and collect the form (you won't have to queue up for the form) it will say everything that you need. Note that the eyesight report has to be no more than a month old.

Well you cant get a provisional licence, they are obsolete since about 2007.

A Learner Permit, on the other hand, is obtained from the local tax office

Garda stations should also have the forms. Eyesight report might also cost you, probably about €15 if I remember correctly.

Rules of the Road are sufficient it would seem to pass it. The times I did miss a few answers were when I doubted myself and when I did not notice there were TWO answers, so I would just tick one.
Hope I can pass it soon.
    Good luck to everyone.:)

To apply for a learner permit you need the following:

-2 identical passport photos, you get them in sets of 4's and they'll cost you around 8 euro, you must sign them on the back
-an eyesight report, basically you have to make an appointment with an optician (do it a day in advance so you get a good time), have the eye test they'll ask you if it's for a permit and they'll fill out the relevant form for you detailing if your eyesight is at the required road safety standard.
    -your theory test cetificate
    -your passport
-a form you must fill out at the motor taxation office which they will have
-and 15 euro is what the permit costs, I just did it myself 2 days ago so i doubt it's changed.

You must bring all of the above to your local motor tax office and they will post you your permit. Also they close at 3.15 or at least mine does so do it early in the day to avoid getting caught out.

So you have to do it in person and cant do it by post then?

You can do it by post or in person but that list is what's required.

hey lads. sorry if im hijacking here but i had a slightly related question. I've asked this to so many people and nobody has been able to answer.

I have a learner permit for a car only. If i do the theory test for M or A or A1 (mopeds/motorbikes) can i add that on to my current learner permit for cars or do i have to get a new one?

Also will i have to go through the enire photo, eyetest, fee etc process again? Thanks! :D

In case anyone was wondering i think i found the aswer. this is for full licences but should still apply.
You are entitled to apply for a driving licence if:
    • You hold a driving licence and you want to have an additional category of vehicles added to it and a driving test is not required
Exchanging a driving licence to show a new name or address or add a new category is also free of charge.

But in the case you quoted above, it said Driving Test not required. But you want category M and A/A1, which do require Driving tests.

I may have read that wrong though.

Its a pretty unclear sentence but i think you read that right. I'm going to call them now and find out.

I got my eyesight report in vision express for 20 euro.

I only paid €10 for an eyesight report in Specsavers. I didn't need to make an appointment either, just walked in and had it done straight away.

I think this means in the case of a previously held licence.
For example, I have an expired full Motorcycle licence. It expired in 2003. When I pass the Car Driving Test, as long as it's before 2013, I can have Motorcycles added, without sitting another bike test.

if you already wear glasses/contacts and have had a test in the last two years or within the time recommended you should not have to pay for the report (my local specsavers didn't charge me anyway).

Hi guys I was just wondering do I have to bring the items needed and the completed form to the Motor tax office or is there some other place like the Garda station i can bring them? The closest motor tax office is a trian journey away. I think you can post it but I'm just wondering about in person.
And is it right you can at least get the form in the garda station?
