Dog Kennels in Laois or nearby?

I am going on holidays in September and need to leave my little dog into kennels. Up to now I have brought her on holidays with us in Ireland but we have had a really tough year and my hubby thinks we should be getting away for a week to relax and unwind as we both need it. However, relaxation will be out of the question if Millie is not being well looked after. I have only had her a year and a half and she is a rescue dog - a terrier cross. However, she holds my heart firmly in her paw and I adore her - we both do.
She can be a bit hyper at times and gets really excited when we come home and this makes her bark alot. We understand all this but I'm worried it might not go down so well in kennels. I'm also worried that she'll fret and revert back to the timid little thing she was when we first got her. Also, she does not get on great with other dogs - particularly females, and she could attack them.
I would love to find kennels in Laois (or a nearby county) where I feel they would take the time to understand her. I would love to be able to visit the kennels first and meet the person/people that would care for her and maybe bring her there on a visit so it wont be strange to her when she goes.
I know this probably sounds over-protective and stupid to some people but I took on this little dog with the intention of all providing her with the best possible care in every way so I need to know that she is happy. Any suggestions?

I'd highly recommend Fircroft in Rathangan, they're really good. they were able to take my Cocker at short notice no problem last year, which a lot of kennels won't do(there's one literally within walking distance of where i live and they need at least a months notice!) Very clean kennels, good quality food, and had no problems with taking Penny even though she is elderly and grumpy! She came back to us better behaved than she left and had no problems settling in. Its also a training centre and they deal with dogs with behavioural problems, so it seems ideal for you and Millie!!

have a look at their website

If you can travel to kilcullen I recommend *highly* kendlea kennels. Keith and Stella take a personal interest in each dog and every dog in there seem to love them. They are well exercised and get a lot of socialisation if that is what you would like.

As far as I know there are a few boardsies here who use them now and would agree.

Kennel fees range from €12.00 to €21.00 per night depending where you go.

Hi there. I found the responses here very helpful and the suggestions seemed goog. However, I rescued my second dog on Friday last so now I have two (!) and have decided that, if I go away, they will be coming with me:D! So band goes the week in the sun and it will be a week in the rain here - a doggy staycation:pac:

If you are willing to travel a bit Haven Kennels is by far something special!!!

Claire who looks after the place is slightly barking mad herself, A serious dog lover she has two dogs herself and can only cater for up to 6-8 more this is as she puts it a hobby (A hobby my @r$e this is a calling for this woman).

There is three sectioned of patches in case dogs need to be separated be it for nerves or aggression. They sleep in a brick built house with double glazing and a radio.

There is an eco multi fuel burning heater being installed for her winter minds. They're walked and out and about running around in the fields behind her house. Thinking of spending a few nights there meself when the misses tells me i'm in the doghouse at least i'll be in the lap of luxury doghouse

We left our two dogs there for about 9 nights 200 euro all in when we went on holidays all we had to bring was their own beds.

Sitting by the pool the phone beeps and it's a text that says mayhem and chaos are settling in fine and have had their walks and having a snooze, i nearly drowned with the laughter all the wimmins thought it was the cutest thing ever.

She is open over christmas and does short term minds like 1-2 nights no problem. But as I said she is quite small for the number of dogs she can take so gets booked up quick enough, but that can only be a good sign too

I have no affiliation other than being a very satisfied client
