    Hi Guys,

I am looking for your help. I was delayed in Alicante last night for 4 hours.
On the boarding pass it says I can claim compensation for Ryanair, does anyone know how this works?

Has anyone been successful in claiming back for delays other then for Volcanic ash???

    Thanks!

It depends on the reason for the delay.
Compensation of €250 may be payable, except in cases that are outside the control of the carrier where the delay was unavoidable- In which case why would you expect compensation.

They should have offered you refreshments though.

Last night was a bit crazy alright. My flight from Dub - Zadar was 2.5 hours late and I know the Stansted one was a few hours late as well. I looked into this before for one that was 5 hours late that made me miss a connection and nothing came out of it. It's only if you have to stay overnight that they're meant to have some responsibility.

    Compensation for what?

    Compensation for what?

Having been through nine airports over the last month I can assure you that spending 4 hours in any airport is no fun. The girl would need to get a bite to eat and any half decent type of a lunch or dinner in an airport could set you back upto €40; €50 if you had a glass of wine.

People must eat and there are other expenses to be factored in like expensive overseas phone calls to cancel maybe a pre arranged taxi or to tell parents to friends you will be delayed if getting picked up at the airport. Buy a magazine and a bottle of water to whittle away the hour and you are looking at the guts of another €10 gone.

Airports ain't cheap and during a recent 5 hours layover in Heathrow for a connecting flight we spent over £200 between 4 of us on some crappy food and just some simple things.

I shouldn't rise to the bait really but if you can spend £200 waiting for a plane in Heathrow and €50 on "a bite to eat" in any airport you shouldn't be let out of the house.

€40 for a lunch meal get a grip of life... airport food is **** and overpriced but not like that you've been taken as a mug if you paid that

And I agree Compensation for what?? You have to pay for food on Ryanair flights anyway so you'll be spending money anyway sometimes if you go to the airlines desk they will give you food vouchers to spend in that particular airport but I guarantee you wont be getting any money back..

Its not like the government as in you cant just claim expenses and they not give a crap

Delayed for four hours? And you want compensation?

Ever been to A&E? There are people with open wounds waiting for twice as long. Patience is a virtue.

Patience is a curse and is part of what is wrong in Ireland, it is not OK to wait so long in the ER and people in this country need to learn to speak up and no longer accept crap customer service.

But it's okay to happily pay €40 for a "bite to eat"? If there's anything wrong, it's the "compo culture". Yes, I realise I'm steering the thread way off course now! Sorry Ponster.

A four hour delay is not crap customer service. If any other (or no) airline was mentioned in the OP, nobody would think twice about it. Things happen, flights get delayed. There are worse things in life than sitting in an airport for a few hours.

The last question is one of MOL's mantras. I make two points in relation to it: first, not all Ryanair tickets are dirt-cheap and, second, it doesn't matter, because all passengers have the same rights in relation to delays or cancellation.

In the case of delay, the passenger's entitlements can include meals, accommodation, and assistance with communications. These passenger entitlements are also airline obligations. It is frequently said that whenever there is a problem, Ryanair withdraw their staff so that there is nobody to whom passengers can go for assistance. If that is so, then Ryanair are intentionally avoiding meeting a legal commitment. I would suggest that if the airline does not provide a meal during a four-hour delay then the passenger could reasonably purchase a not-too-expensive meal and be entitled to claim the cost from the airline.

It might take people with strong motivation and deep pockets to pursue such a claim.

For an outline of passenger entitlements, see http://www.consumerconnect.ie/eng/Learning_Zone/Guides_To_Consumer_Law/Travel/Delayed%20flights/

If he paid less than a hundred euro for his ticket, I wouldn't expect any 'compensation' from the airline.

It has nothing to do with the cost of a ticket.

Passangers have their entitlements regardless of the cost of the ticket. All the information is available here http://www.auc.org.uk/default.aspx?catid=306&pagetype=90&pageid=4404

I'm a fan of Ryanair and I fly with them a lot but if my flight was delayed and I was entitled to some compensation I'd fight to get it.

Its no different to when Ryanair add on the extra charges if you make a mistake. The charges can be avoided if you play by Ryanairs ruless and the compensation can be avoided if Ryanair play by the rules of the EU.
